I have a few sites that I had NO problem ranking, all the way to number 1 for 3 or 4 keywords. I even have a couple making 300-500 a month so it's not like I'm totally a newb and can't make money. But, for every site that ranks fine, I have a site that google leaves at 500+ . Why? I can't seem to shake whatever penalty I'm..uh... penalized for. Is it a keyword stuffing issue maybe? All content is unique, 1000+ words per page type thing...I can't call it quality since google doesn't like it. Does no one ever have this problem? How do I fix it? One site I didn't give up one, made links etc did a great job...still 500+ for a few keywords and 70-80 for the ones I want LOL |

Maybe it's the Google dance? Some of my sites are rank in the top 5 one day and then completely gone from the SERPs the next day.

So long as you're still in the index, it will come back, it's just a matter of time, but yeah definitely look twice at your on-site SEO, 99% of penalties are from on site factors.

It does show up when I do "site:". Anyone have any examples of what SEO factors I should be looking at? Aside from inadvertent keyword stuffing I can't think of anything else |

I had a site buried in the SERPs for over a year. Every now and then it would surface and get traffic, only to get buried again. I added hundreds of unique posts, built backlinks consistently without much success until about 14 months the site surfaced permanently and the traffic is in a HUGE trajectory now. I ramped up unique content generation and backlinking and it continues to rank better for many posts and traffic is increasing monthly. It was extremely frustrating because for those first 14 months the site made little money despite a significant investment of my time and money. However, I knew the content was unique and my backlinks were legit (article distribution, blog commenting and guest posting). I stayed the course and now the site earns well over $2K per month and is increasing each month. If your site is above-board with unique content and legit backlinks, be patient. I found this experience odd because in other niches I had sites rank quickly and not bounce around. I couldn't figure out why the odd scenario. I still have no idea. |

Yeah it happens to some of my sites as well. I'm using the same strategy and some just seem to take longer to stabilize in SERP. It is frustrating but I just work on others that seem to rank well while waiting for the rest to come back.
