For the past 7 days since Yahoo Site Explorer was shut down, I've been pissed and going back and forth with a lot of tools both online tools and software applications trying to find something that would even give me a close definition of YSE but up until now, I didn't find any. I first ran to SEO Spyglass and downloaded their latest version after reading their press release here claiming that though Yahoo Site Explorer is shut down that they won't be affected but honestly, that was a big lie. I mean I had big hopes for these guys but they literally disappointed me, the results they were showing me was utterly weird and I just knew they were wrong so I decided to some sample tests... I loaded one of my websites with over 1,500 backlinks and it returned only 34 backlinks then I decided to try on my other site with around 200 backlinks but SEO Spyglass returned only 40 backlinks, the whole thing was a big mess up. It was a big mess and if I took such result to a competition, I was guaranteed to fail as SEO Spyglass now depend on the Blekko API and if you know what you are doing, you already know that Blekko is everything but good for researching backlink profiles */it's a waste of time/* So, I continued my search to find a good tool and I've tested out so many tools out there, in the last 5 days, I've spent over $300 paying premium monthly charges to find any tool that will give me good results (good thing, I'm about to cancel all of them). At first, OpenSiteExplore.org costing $99 a month was looking good but when I start using it deep, there were a lot of shortcomings on the features, it couldn't just meet up the required results. I checked on many others, trust me... I already checked that one you want to recommend right now. Till now, I read this post "The First REAL Free Alternative to Yahoo Site Explorer" and I got introduced SEO Attack | Free, Easy and Simple Backlink Analysis and so far, it's the best stuff that I've seen and from my personal opinion, it's far better than Yahoo Site Explorer combined with any other site explorer. I'm nothing short of amazed by the features and their very friendly user interface, I highly recommend you check them out if you are looking for something better than Yahoo Site Explorer or any other site explorer tools you may be using now. I hope you like it... Cheers |

Looks pretty decent. Though what I miss most about YSE was the ability to plug literally thousands of pages into Scrapebox and grab all of the backlinks at once. (Was also great for analyzing the competition of page 1 for your keywords.) |

Seoattach.org doesn't show any back links pointing to my site when there's quite a number. I've also been looking for a good new alternative to yahoo site explorer. At the moment I'm using - Ahrefs - Backlinks & SERPs Research Tool which seems to be good. |

excellent resource, thank you! I always disliked yahoo explorer (and the scary firefox toolbars) anyway; the interface and explanations of this are much better |

you know, for a manual linking guy with not too many sites to analyse seoattack seems ideal. Cant believe the arrogance of MSN in closing the yahoo service down like no one was using it. Guess thats what followers do? Anyway, thanks for the great heads up, now its just a matter of learning how to use the filters and record the data that will take a little time. |

So is SEOAttack scraping the web or utilizing LinkScape, as noted at the bottom of their website? If its the latter, how is it any better than any of the other resources? I know that sounds critical but... Unfortunately I just tried using it, and before I actually figured out how to use it I exhausted my free lookups. Not so user friendly, although I may end up taking a look at it tomorrow when I get my free limits removed again. |

Please explain the info as seen on here: SEO Attack | Free, Easy and Simple Backlink Analysis 500 searches / day + 200 link depth Does that mean that for $99.97.mo I get 10,000 links? if so how are you a better deal than linkscape from which the data seems to be pulled? |

It's naturally pointless if you don't trust SEOMoz's data and proprietry metrics. I believe that SEOMoz and Majestic SEO are the main players in crawling their own backlinks (but I haven't had a long enough look at Blekko yet). A tool that makes using either of their databases easy is a winner for me.

It shows less than 1/10-th of all existing (as reported by Google webmasters tools) backlinks for me. Same as other tools. No go. |

So you are basing value of tool with amount of links they return? Imo that is not optimal strategy. If that was the case then go with majesticseo. The most important thing is to familiarize yourself with the info a certain tool brings back and analyze with serp movements. Some tools/service report to only show backlinks that carry juice. If that's the case, then number of backlinks don't matter. Pick one you like. Understand what the number means. Test test test. |

This one is even worst. It even shows you an option to register for free o you can see more data, but when you actually try to register, it only gives you paid options. There is no page fore registering for free.

ahrefs seems to be good alternatives, because it shows not only number of backlinks but also number of differnet C-class IP address that are linking to. Disadvantage: you must do research for each individual site separetelly. I don't know if there is any tool that will pull out results from ahrefs for whole SERP. |

How can I get backlink and anchor text data for a subpage of a website rather than just a top level domain? This tool doesn't seem to work for that.

That's a good point, Osman. When I get some time I plan on running a few comparisons to see which ones contain the most up to data database of live links. Aesthetics and functionality are important but it's all useless if the links are out of date.

Gleb, Yahoo Site Explorer was popular but it wasn't accurate. It seemed like it took forever to remove dead links. GWT does show a lot more links these days but it's usless for competition analysis.

Every FREE site I have tried has restricted number of back link results or it lists all back links but doesn't show anchor text, page rank etc. I guess there is no such thing as a free lunch when it comes to backlink tools. |
