create seo friendly foreign-language versions of site?

My Opportunity Blog, I'm pretty proud of it and the content, but since we're an International opportunity I'd love to expand it to a couple of foreign languages. It doesn't convert like I want.... but that's another question for another day!
Any advice on the best SEO friendly way to do it? For example, if I set up a subdomain, like Mexico.mysite.com.... does this make sense?
Anyway to do that without setting up a completely new wordpress setup on it and starting from scratch?
Just curious.

I also have a global opportunities website ready to be launched, and I have been wondering the same issues as yours recently.
