Hard to rank 1 page site these days

I recently found my strategy to bring a low competition keyword to page 1 in under 1 month and top 3 under 2 months so I tried to replicate these to other keywords.

I built a bunch of 1 page websites then built backlinks to them, I was meant to save money by spending on backlinks and adding more pages later. And guess what? I can't get them to even top 20, using the same strategy before. I think this is part of the recent G update of dumping thin sites and I was foolishly test google. So I would built less site and will add more contents and see how it goes.

Yes, you're correct! Due to panda update some top sites were going down and some average sites were going up. This is what google wants to give users the information that they want to look for with a great user & design interface and at the same time with a quality content website.
