I'd say Google Keyword tool. But if you have the money Market Samurai is great used that in the past.

Used Traffic Travis in the fairly distant past (maybe 2 or 3 years ago) and results for keywords didn't seem accurate. For example if I did the research twice for the same keyword in less than 5 minutes I may get very different results in terms of global or local monthly searches.

Or I'd be using traffic travis and my roommate would as well and we may do some keyword research on the same keyword, but get different results. Don't know if that still happens or what the case may have been. :/

Be nice if someone could actually shed some light or give their experiences with traffic travis.

This is my first post -- I am just starting out on my internet journey so everything is very new to me. I have read most of the posts in this thread and noted that Market Samurai is the choice product. Google Adwords Keyword Tool also picks up a number of votes. I have been recommended to purchase Wordtracker. This doesn't seem to rank very high. Could someone please throw some light on why this product doesn't meet the grade.

Thanks in advance.

Google adword keyword tool is just amazing for researching keywords it is totally free for use and it gives al the infirmation about the searching keywords like competition on keyword, global and local search with region and also pay per click of the keyword.

It seems there are tons of people who use Google KW tool to do all their research.... so what are they missing that Market Samurai does so much better? I.e., if so many people here love a paid MS, there must be 1-2 things it does that blows google out of the water? Their selling point seems to be it saves u time... not sure how much longer it takes to go to google, type in terms, download CSV and look... must be missing something here...

Anyone here heard/used Jaaxy? Its something new and wanted some intel on it....

I think manually doing the keyword results is better than using software. IF you want to show best output results to client do work manually.

I studied google tool and used to select my KWs. Actually, I love this keyword tool. But I do not like it way of selecting KWs. It dose not give any specific decision. You have to have some basic knowledge of the market where you are going to float your product. Then you can choose a potential kw.

If you value your time it is worth buying.

WebCEO I used and got a refund - it's a bit slow and dated. It has a lot of feature but not convinced on the usefulness. MS is better in that you get results that matter much more quickly.

I tried Wordtracker on a trial. Wasn't convinced when it came up with very long tail keywords and said 100+ visits per day. I think their data is slightly wrong and as soon as I distrusted the data I couldn't use it anymore.

Only downside to MS is it Google-only data. No Yahoo/Bing is taken account of. But I do get some keywords where the traffic comes from Y and B and not G. So do some manual Y/B research as well or perhaps find a different tool for that if you need.

Bear in mind there is no perfect keyword research solution, and there never will be because the search engines never release totally accurate data.

Can someone please tell me the best way to do keyword research? I have seen so many different ideas but would love to do it right.
I have a wedding directory for a niche market and wondered how to use it correctly.
Since I want to target a specific market I found companies that these people search online
and found 3 companies so now my question is how do I know if I should target those names and if I can compete.
Hope to hear from you as this was the only way I thought that would allow me to find the right people I am targeting.

easy to use, but not even close to being accurate, imo.

i love seomoz's keyword competition tool - it shows the competitiveness and serp outlay.

i have axandra ibp - purchased it through the company in 2009, and have kept it ever since. it's good at showing the keyword effectiveness index, but that's really all it's good for (keyword ideas are next to nothing); its linkbuilding tool is completely outdated. will likely let it lapse, as i'm charged quarterly "search updates" for $35 to keep it "up to date".

i will have to check out market samarai. seems like i've been missing out there.
