Google keyword research tool is very useful for keyword selection. It helps in choosing the long tailed and short keywords which are searched globally and locally and you can choose the size for that keywords.

Market Samurai is a bit old hat now so there are other options out there, however, you don't really need to spend money on keywords these days.

You might want to read the article below from David Anderson's marketing blog:

Got to disagree with you on this one. Market Samurai is for me still as relevant as ever. I read your article and it's about PPC. How does this then relate to your comment about not needing to spend money on keywords?

Best,
Derek

Hi Warriors,

Because we are new at this I am wondering if you can explain something to me.

When we look at Google Adwords Keyword tool we get a search that is different from the search we ran with a fellow warriors keyword search. But, this is not entirely true in all cases as some words were the same.

So I am wondering if you can tell me why?

If we found a keyword while using the Google Adwords keyword tool that said it had Low competition and got a lot of traffic then is it one we can rank for?

Any thoughts you have on this could help, we are beginners and trying to learn the ropes.

BTW, thank you in advance. Love this site and all of the intelligent people on it!

You don't think it misses anything? Besides, if it does everything you want, there are others that do everything it does for 20% of the price.

hi,

When starting a blog, what is the best way to use keyword research to decide on what articles I should write? because the industry that i am writing a blog in is quite competitive, i'll give an example of the investing market, almost all keyword search terms in this market are too competitive for a new blog to rank for. I have spent a lot of time doing keyword research I know there is different traffic methods such as social media but Search engine traffic is the best in my opinion.

I will write good content but good content is nothing if no one sees it.

so can anyone give me some advice.

Always Go for medium competitive keyword and medium traffic keywords, it is the way to rank your keyword, both high keywords will be very difficult,
Google adwords keywords tool helps to target in geo areas too (i.e.) area specific keywords.

Google Adwords would be the best free keyword research tool. Remember that, you're using Google as a platform to do internet marketing projects and certainly Google knows which keywords that most searched. The key of success is, do a deeper analysis on your targeted keywords.

The total number of competing sites are from Bing, yes. But the actual top 10 is being pulled from Google when you analyze the competition. In my opinion, this is far, far more important, and why I continue to use and benefit from Market Samurai.

Best,

This is my reason for using Market Samurai also. At first I was concern when they started using Bing for data. When I understood that the competition 10 sites that are ranking was actually from Google I continued to use it. Competition is what matters, I think.

Market Samurai lets you look at keywords by number of words in them. You could only look at keywords with 5 or more words, for instance. They tend to be less competitive.

Also, you can look into: Keyword suggestion tool — Google suggest scraper — Übersuggest. Then run those keywords through Google keyword tool, for exact match. Most will have little... However, they're what people were using the day you checked.

The only data being pulled from Bing is the number of competing sites. The actual top 10 (as seen in the SEO Competition Module) and the search volume are all pulled from Google.

Don't check 200 keywords a day. Look at patterns, learn which keywords are likely to have little competition, check only those.

By the way, you can have market samurai only show keywords with 5 word in them or longer. Or with 6 and longer. 5 + tend to have no competition.

You just have to find one that has a bit of volume... They tend to have under 50 exact match searches a month. But, some have 100 or more. Some have a few thousand.

Or you find a non-competitive niche where 3 word ones can win for you.

You can also select Google AdWords Traffic Estimator.
The free Google AdWords Traffic Estimator tool gives you an idea of how much advertisers are paying for certain keywords.
