Default On Page SEO AFTER You Build LInks

I have 2 questions for the SEO experts in the house....

1. Lets say I build links for about a month and then when I check I really have to rebuild up my Onpage seo (H1 tags etc stuff). Once I re do the onpage seo what happens to those links that were built a month before?

Do they help at all AFTER the fact I just re did the onpage seo OR now those old links wont count as much anymore and I need to rebuild new links to go towards the changed onpage seo?

2. Also if I change plugins for the SEO (from all in one seo plug in to Yoast plug in) how will this affect any links that were built BEFORE the change?

Really my question is all the links and promotion I did BEFORE the on page seo changes will those help at all once the on page seo is RE DONE?

Thanx

1. There won't be many long term effects of doing SEO in an odd order assuming google is crawling your site regularly. Don't focus on the chronology of it, just make sure it is all done.

2. If by links you mean backlinks from other sites you have built to your site, this shouldn't be effected by which plugins you are using

The two are not actually related. You can build up your links beforehand and then spice up your on-page SEO afterwards.
Google classes the two as separate divisions. I.e. If you have poor on-page SEO and modest backlinks, they will rank you in x position. If you then upgrade your on-page SEO, and still have the same backlinks, your entire SEO package will be a lot better and your ranking will eventually increase.

To wrap it up, off-page and on-page make up the two divisions of SEO. By improving both you can increase your ranking.

Hope that makes sense.

As long as you haven't changed the page urls with your updates that links you have previously created will still be pointing to that page and will help you to rank ....
On page changes to content is not a bad thing as long as you are making improvements: ie more keyword relevant unique content

Trust me, do your on-page seo first!

If you start building external links pointing at a site with zero seo, then later change all the on-page seo, you'll be creating a bunch of extra unnecessary work later on.

If it's Wordpress your running, that default URL is crap, any seo would change that. If you build links pointing at the default URL, those backlinks you built first will be dead links (wasted time).

Get your entire site structure/seo right first, before you build external backlinks.

Otherwise you'll be wasting time doing a bunch of unnecessary 301 redirects later on when all those dead links start popping up.

Besides the on-page seo is the easy part, you have 100% control over everything.
