Default Google’s “Not Provided” Referrals Growing In Percentage?

Quote:
Last month, Google announced that it would begin encrypting search queries with SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) as the default experience at Google.com for users who are logged in to their Google accounts.

As a result, there is a lot data that was once available in Google Analytics for webmasters is now hidden. “When a signed in user visits your site from an organic Google search, all web analytics services, including Google Analytics, will continue to recognize the visit as Google ‘organic’ search, but will no longer report the query terms that the user searched on to reach your site,” said Amy Chang on the Google Analytics blog. “Keep in mind that the change will affect only a minority of your traffic. You will continue to see aggregate query data with no change, including visits from users who aren’t signed in and visits from Google ‘cpc’.”

Yeah Search Engine Land is now reporting 25% of organice Google searches are "not provided." I can see that reflected on my sites as it is hovering around the mid-20s.

I am getting just over 10% of my traffic for the last 14 days as "Not Provided" in the weight loss market with about 40k organic referrals. It's my top keyword now...

Yes google is blocking some keyword in the stats, so decided to check out other analytics which is free (open source) - www.piwik.org. This is a free self hosted software and an alternative to google analytics.

It doesn't matter which software you use, whether it's Google Analytics or Stat Counter, either way those queries will be encrypted at the search stage and thus not shared with the webmaster.

I was reliably informed that the missing data is likely to be made available to users of the paid google analytics premium service.
