Default Learn How to Find Long-Tail keywords.

This is a compilation of a few of my own past forum post & how to use Google Instant to find long-tail keywords based on a root keyword (example: iphone)

I've seen a few members asking how to find long-tail keywords.

Keep in mind, this is better suited for generating keyword ideas. Get creative in how you blend these keywords into your own content/pages.

Hope it helps.

Try this.

Your root keyword is iphone.

This will return plenty of prefix ideas for your root keyword.

Then work your way through the entire alphabet & add a single letter to the front of the root keyword (iphone).

Example: aiphone, biphone, ciphone, etc...

Root Keyword

aiphone

biphone

ciphone

diphone

eiphone
Quote:
Ok, same keyword as above iphone, only numerical instead of the alphabet.

You still need to check traffic levels, on the Google Instant longtail keywords.

Really the prefix & suffix is endless, with Google Instant...

Example: 1iphone, 2iphone, 3iphone, etc...

1iphone

2iphone

If you turn OFF Google Instant & go to the Google home page to do your keyword research, you'll double your search results (max) from 5 results to 10 results per search.

Then leave a blank space at the end of your search (arrow in screenshot below).

I have never thought of doing this. This is a great way of finding long tail keywords for your site. Its my understanding that a lot of people are missing opportunites with long tail keywords for their site. I will definitely try this!

Yukon, don't know if you've seen this tool yet: Ubersuggest.

It does exactly what you're explaining, but lightning fast!

Thanks Ben,

I've used that in the past, If I do the same search (example: cannon a) I get different results between Google & the ubersuggest tool.

However the results (keywords) are similar, I wonder If the ubersuggest tool has a dated database they are pulling results from.

Could also be results based on my IP vs. their Geo. location, maybe it's results from different Google servers?

That is a nice tool for keyword ideas.

Anyways, you can use my old school manual search as a plan-B to fall back on If the ubersuggest tool is ever down.

You know, putting a subtly "an**" slant on this, I've often wondered whether the G algorithm has picked up on marketers using too many of these "footprint" keywords in their 'titles' 'headers' 'tags' etc. within one domain. I know that I like to mix it up and it works wonders. But you can imagine somebody having a whole domain worth of exactly these easily findable longtails (and nothing else).

That's why I said keyword ideas & get creative in the OP.

I hope that nobody does a Google Instant copy & paste as their page title or URL on their own web pages.

If Google Instant returned canon body kit, I would do something like:

[page title]
"Canon Introduces 2012 Body Kits"

Be creative guys.

How do you copy down these lists of keywords? When I try to manually type them in notepad the list disappears. Is there a better method of copying down the terms?
