I am looking for someone who is an "expert" on why content might be penalized by Google. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS THREAD WITH THINGS LIKE "remove duplicate content" or "Google loves high quality content". I am not a newb and am looking for "expert" advice. This is solely for those who understand why "content" is penalized not someone looking to preach high quality backlinks or other types of penalties. If anyone feels that they can help please PM me. Thanks.

| I checked page time. The average visitor was on each page for close to 4 minutes which is about the time it should take to finish the article. Bounce rate is high but only because the website is a tech blog geared towards pretty specific buying information. They wouldn't need to search more because these articles provide them with the exact info they need.

Content is penalized MAINLY if it's scraped content, like a bad autoblog or a blog which only has scraped videos from Youtube...content from Yahoo answers and similar. Then there MIGHT be content which is penalized because it doesn't adhere to Google quality guidelines, like obvious "make money" schemes/offers, drugs, porn etc. But it's not only about "content" in particular, but even more it's your whole site including factors like site navigation, missing terms/privacy/contact pages etc. which can all be a factor influencing rankings. A real "penalization" IN MY EXPERIENCE happens rarely and if it happens then because of serious mistakes one made...like excessive overdoing it with link building, spamming, interlinking of your own sites, cloaking etc....things which are big no-nos in Google's eyes. The same for "bad links" linking to bad neighborhoods, drugs, meds, porn etc. links For a "genuine" site with unique content it is VERY unlikely that it ever gets penalized. |

This is all fine and dandy when I get penalized for legitimate "spammy" sites. My problem right now is one of my best sites is obviously seeing some sort of content penalty and for the life of me I can't figure it out. The content is very top notch IMO. | |

Is the content "overly" optimized to the point that your keyword density is ridiculous? Is your content being scraped by others and duplicated on the net on other sites? |
