Page A is dedicated to product A. Page B is dedicated to product B. Product A and product B are similar and both pages offer promotional codes for these two products. Now, product B has become obsolete. Can I 301 redirect this page to Page A? Is it ok according to Google? Thank you! |

What do you mean by, ok with Google? Are you talking about Adwords, or organic search? If it's organic search, then go for it, no point in having outdated pages, espically If it's a sales page. If the old sales page is ranking good in the SERPs, I would rework the old page to try & keep the good search position. |

Yes, organic search. I can't rework it, the keywords would need to be different. The only thing is leave it like it is but adding a paragraph pointing the visitor to Page A. But I don't like this solution.

If that old page has any backlinks pointing at it, you'll need to leave that redirect up permanently so you don't lose any traffic or link juice from the old links. If the old page has no external links, then give Google time to update the SERPs via the 301 redirect (month or so) then remove the outdated page. | |

I watched the video. Referring to canonical tags, Matt Cutts says that pages should be pretty similar, so I guess the same stands for 301 redirects.

Yes, that will perfectly fine with Google. Moreover, you will transferring all the credit of Page B to page A. So, in your case this will be the most preferred strategy. |
