How important is page rank?

Is page rank the #1 attribute I should be concerned about when trying to snag the top spot in Google?

I've heard different scenarios on this and I just want a crystal clear answer.

No, Page Rank has virtually no impact in search engine results, PR get you authority in the eyes of everyone on the internet, i.e. if you have a PR 7 then you will get emails all day long asking for those to link to you. You can achieve great search results with low PR, but if you are in this for the long haul, then I would work on getting your PR established within a year, say PR 5, then as times goes on you can find relationships with other site that have higher PR than yours and help you to gain PR. At first, though don't be to concerned about it, if you do your natural link building campaign, you should get a PR of 3, or 4, then as times goes on your PR will go up slowly.

Remember this: One link from a high PR site, like 6 or 7, can give you a big jump in PR, better than thousands of links to get your site that high. Good Luck.

Having a high page rank is not required to get a high ranking. While the PR does help, all it is really used for is to rank the "authority" of a site.

Only my opinion, but I wouldn't say that it has no bearing on search results.

What I mean is this... while YOUR SITE's PR may not have much of a bearing on search results, having backlings from high PR sites is a very good indicator of the quality of links that you would get back to your site, thus increasing your rankings.

Sooo... While you want to have diverse backlinks, paying attention to the PR of the sites that are linking back to you is what is important. Of course, be natural and have a good amount of Low PR sites in there, but also seek out the high PR sites.

High Page rank is not important to your site if you site gives you good business then i will be ok.

You need to upload content regularly to get some page rank.

Page Rank is NOT based only upon content quality. It is highly based upon incoming votes to your site from other sites especially authority sites with high PR.

PR4 and above does not mean anything like "good in the eyes of Google". PR is given to a page, not a site. If I create a new page today it will be a PR0. It may be "good in the eyes of Google", but until people start linking to the page it will remain a PR0. (Google doesn't care.)

Uploading content regularly???? PR is PAGE BASED. Each new page of content MUST rank on it's own. You will gain on PR for your home page if all of those new content items link back to it and they gain in PR.

Google is giving PR1 to all sites with content? HUH???? Every site has content and the MAJORITY of all web pages online are PR0.

As other people have pointed out, you want to find high PR incoming links which will push your site higher on Google, and in all likelihood will start pushing your PR higher.

Just keep in mind, ranking and PR are all PAGE BASED, not SITE BASED. You will need to create backlinks for each page you wish to rank.

Plus your incoming links need to come from those high PR pages on other sites, not "from a high PR site" because unless the page has high PR it doesn't pass much ranking or PR juice on to you.

Actually, I don't care regarding my site will get a high PR or not since SEO relies heavily on the quality of backlinks and not on pagerank.

As per me pagerank is important when you want to exchange the links with other. And also pagerank shows the reputation of the site and people always like to deal with the reputed people. And you have seen many times that before any of deal people first ask for the pagerank of the site. And that is why for me pagerank is important. But it depend on you that how much importance you give to pagerank.
And if pagerank no matters then when it update why people just start talking on that and wait for the pagerank updates.

No. It's just a small piece in Google's big puzzle in ranking a site. But there's nothing wrong in working for your pages to have a good PR.

Just don't think it will bring your site to the top.

Ranking = The position you are "ranked" or the position you have achieved in the Google search results for keyword phrases you are targeting.

PR = Google's Pagerank, a number which combines a number of factors to give a numeric value of authority. The highest PR sites are ones like Google, YouTube, Wikipedia, etc.. You can view Pagerank with many toolbars and SEO tools. Web pages always start with a PR0 and can gain in PR if they receive enough links (votes) from other higher PR sites.

PR and Ranking do not always go hand in hand for any particular phrase...You can have low PR sites ranking very highly for a phrase depending on on-page optimization, relevance, and numbers of incoming links.

I would say PR is not overly important to rank for a keyword term. For example one of my sites has a PR of 2, but website below it are as high as 5.

I think the best and most important thing that can really help is domain name relevance to your keywords.
