Hello guys I'm desperate. Overnight, the lovely page 1 keyword rankings for my best-performing site dropped to page 5/6/7. I did some web directory submission over the last two weeks (maybe 250 backlinks over two weeks, which are not compeltely indexed yet) and bought a premium domain last week as well with an existing PR in the niche. I 301 redirected that newly bought domain name to my existing site. Although, This shouldn't have any effect but I just don't know which action may have caused this slap? or If it's just a dance in the SERP's? I know the behaviours with new sites, when you start to linkbuild, you don't get positon 1 if you type in the domain name in google, but after some time you do. This is not the case here. All the pages are indexed, when typing in the domain name in google we get position 1 as well, like before, but the keyword rankings dropped pages. Any ideas, how to fix this, or what may be the issue here? |

Hi LuckyLuke, It is quite normal to see rankings fluctuate from time to time. I wouldn't worry unless they don't bounce back. This is known as the Google Dance. Your new backlinks could have some impact if you had relatively few previous backlinks, but this will be a short term effect. I think you should wait a week and see where you stand then. |

Hi Luke, the same thing has happened to me. Just wait a few days to see if you site bounces back. Maybe the search engine are doing a deep crawl. These deep crawls can mix things up temporarily. |

When I face such problems, I revert the things/changes which I made to my site and then I keep on building the links and slowly my links tend to climb back up again (but oh they fall down again)

ranking changing overnight is always surprising for many people, but as long we keep doing steading backlinking and adding more content then everything will be okay. If it's a penalty then the treatment like that will not be enough..

Of the two I would suggest directory links were responsible. It is very common to see this happen after aggresive link building. The good news is it will be an automated filter and will expire in a few weeks to 3 months. Not really good news if your losing a lot of money, but it could be worse! Regards 301, I prefer to build a small site on a caught domain and put content on it that can be migrated to the money site later. Let the dust settle, then migrate the content and do the 301. That way your not banging a dropped domain straight over but migrating a site and its content. Seems to work better in some instances. Another thing you have probably learned from this is not to make lots of changes back to back! |
