Default Backlinks

In the last couple of days I gained a lot of backlinks. Actually it’s about 260, but it is a lot for me and my site is only 3 weeks old. But the problem is, that more than 200 of this links come from three blogs, that I commented on. I only placed 1 comment on each and it generated over 200 links according to yahoo. I should be happy, but it is actually hurting my rankings. I was on page 5 for my keyword, now I’m back to page 11 and it keeps going down. Is google penalizing me for too many backlinks in a couple of day? Why do I have over 200 backlinks from only three blog comments? Any suggestions?

I wouldn't worry to much. Your site is still new, and google hasn't properly ranked your site yet. You experiencing what is commonly known as the "google dance." It happens for many new sites, especially when you begin building backlinks.

After a couple weeks the site should settle in a position that Google deems relevant. But you should continue building links at the same velocity that you began. So,if you started building 5 links a day, continue at that pace. You can give and take a little.

The comments you made on 3 blogs is part of the global template and so it is found on all the pages on the site thus showing so many links. In effect, Google will count the first link and ignore the rest. So you do not have to worry about backlink count in this case

Dont worry about it, just keep building your links at a steady rate. Don't worry what Yahoo links states (it always seems to be all over the place) just keep building the links, searching for websites with high PR for a back link is always a good idea

This happens all the time you really hav enothing to worry about with your rankings. For google plays with the batting line up alot. The only ones that normally stat put are the top 5. Although these do move a little. I actually had a site that was on page 5 or so and went back to page of the dark blue where I almost couldnt find it. Once it started climbing though it did so with a vengance and it landing me on page one. So you should have nothing to worry about. Remember too google really doesnt care about pr any more. They only care about content and links. The pr aspect has been almost entirely eliminated from there algorithm.

Nah, probably nothing to worry about. But how come 200 links came from only 3 blogs if you commented only 1 time on each? "Side wide" links?

Well, it's good to get more and more back links form other domain but keep one think in mind that the back links you got from unique domain are always very important and have a huge priority so it's good that we should create the content of our website that should be very good, unique and very informative too so that more and more people like to see and visit our site again and again and also get link to our website...

You don't need to worry for only 260 backlinks.

You got 260 backlinks in 3 weeks, that's around 13 links daily. It's totally acceptable.

The blog probably had the "top commentator" widget where if you post a comment it will appear on all pages of the blog (eg: 80 page blog = 80 links, 200 page blog = 200 links)

You can do a search "blog+top commentator" you should be able to find them with ease

Maybe you can update the latest ranking in this thread next month,
Then we would know what's going on.
If your site in page 1, means you did the right thing.

I have personally built thousands of backlinks too quickly and rather than being fiagged for spam they had no affect at all. I remember watching a video where matt cutts discusses taking measures to prevent such black hat seo. This is also why when you build links farms they do not hurt or help at all.

that's the wrong question.
it should be "why does google not show the true amount of links to my site"?

answer: google does not want you to be able to copy your competitors, which is the reason why you can get more reliable numbers for your sites in the webmaster section.

The link you got is from one domain only so basically it is only one link. Do you think from one link to get up in ranking.

Don't worry about it. Your site is new and it's doing the so called Google dance. Google hasn't determined where it wants to place you among the other sites yet. 260 backlinks is not getting links too fast so you're ok.

Keep plugging along.

The reason you have that many links from the blog commenting is because the blog owner syndicates their comments either to somewhere else on their site or to another site. Keep commenting on those blogs they help alot.

There is all sorts of theories behind backlink building but you really have to ask yourself that if Google can't find the link by itself, is the link that great to begin with? Boosting links is a pretty old technique and should give them a bit more power but just pinging them to get indexed seems like a false economy to me. Take the time it takes to ping the links and find a better opportunity in the first place.

it's true. but that's not the BEST way. the best method that i would say is for you to find a relative active niche and try to get a backlink from there as that's more ethical. crawlers often visit sites that are updates more often so if you post in an active site related to your site, the crawlers will pick your site from there. pinging is like a one time thing, even though it may seem faster. you ping your site once, notify the search engines and that's it. but if you take your time posting and doing relevant back linking, your link will be there for good and the crawlers will revisit your site and this will also count towards your link popularity, which counts towards ranking.

all the best

for me i just upload all my backlinks to tom's backlink booster and let it automatically ping, rss and post to web 2.0 sites for faster and high indexation rate. You can also try sean's backlink booster and another software called backlink energizer which all do the same thing.

When you create backlinks, you want them to seem as natural as possible... Some pleople say you shouldn't create more than 50 backlinks each day for a new domain, because it will seem unnatural and google won't like it.

But to be honest, if you post them in different places, it will take time for google to find them anyway, and it will seem more natural. You can essentially post as many as you like if you post them in different, relevant places.

But if you ping them all, it will be a little suspicious to google, and you won't get as many brownie points for it.

Google know how to crawl all the sites that they think are important, so if google can't find the link themselves, then they probably don't care...

It is a good idea to ping your new websites, but backlinks aren't really necessary if they're of high quality.

Thanks for the tips. I have been creating forum profile to promote my site. The reason why i do this is because am promoting so many site at the same time. Its more easier to put the url in signature, so do i have to ping them too? Is there another method i can use to build backlinks for multiple site at the same time or best way to build links?

You can try using tools like backlink energizer or backlink booster. Both of these tools were created specifically to get your backlinks indexed. Ive been researching both of them and will probably end up using backlink energizer first. The consensus seems to be that it is easier to use and more effective than backlink booster. But of course there is only one way to know for sure and that is to try for myself and evaluate the results.

Default Step-by-Step Linkbuilding Plan

For those of you who like a step-by-step, day-by-day plan for building links, here you go.

Services I use:
Lexorsoft for link building outsourcing (paid)
textbroker for articles (paid)
pingomatic for RSS submissions (free)
pingler for URL pinging (free)
article-rewriter.appspot.com (free - but crappy - spinner)

I'm assuming you already have a site built around 4 - 10 main keyword phrases. If not, do the whole keyword research site build thing first, and then do the following for each one of your main keyword phrase articles.

Your main keyword articles should be 400 - 600 words. I make these Pages in a Wordpress blog.

Support keyword articles should be ~300 keywords. I make these Posts in a Wordpress blog.

Day 1
  1. new article optimized for your targeted keyword phrase using length guidelines above
    1. Use keyword phrase a 4 - 5 times total in the article
    2. Use your keyword phrase in the first sentence of first paragraph
    3. Use keyword phrase 2-3 more times evenly spaced through the body of the article
    4. Use keyword phrase somewhere in the last paragraph
      1. make this keyword phrase a link back to the article URL
    5. Use a domain level keyword phrase at least 1 time somewhere in the article
    6. make that use a link back to the main domain URL
Day 2
  1. 30 social bookmarks from lexorsoft to the new article URL (.3 credits = $2.67)
Day 3
  1. Spin the article you wrote on day 1
    1. Clean up the rewrite - (I do a thorough cleanup/rewrite to make sure it readable)
  2. Use the article for 20 article submissions at lexorsoft (.2 credits = $2.00)
    1. Use two links in the resource box
      1. Link 1: article keyword phrase linked to article URL
      2. Link 2: one of you main domain keyword phrase linked to main domain
  3. Once task is complete (1 - 3 days) and you get the report from Lexorsoft, ping the articles using pingler
Day 4
  1. 15 blog comments from Lexorsoft for article keyword phrase linked to article page (1.5 credits = $12.00)
Day 5
  1. 1. If you have not already run blog creation
    1. 20 blog creation from lexorsoft using their articles (1.5 credits = $12.00)
    2. Once you get the report of the created blogs (1 - 3 days), submit all the blog rss feeds using pingomatic
  2. If you have previously run blog creation
    1. 20 blog posting task (pending cost - right now Lexorsoft only offer 50 blog posts to an existing network)
    2. Once you get the report of the posts (1 - 3 days), submit all the blog rss feeds using pingomatic and each blog page using pingler
Day 6
  1. 30 directory submissions to main domain URL using 1 of the main keyword phrases (.3 credits = $2.67)
Day 7
  1. 20 authority site profiles (1 credits = $8)
    1. Once you get the report of the profiles (1 - 3 days), ping the profile URLS using pingler
Total lexorsoft cost ~$27 per week

ADDITIONAL TIP
At the beginning of every month, I also run the Angela's list task for my main domain keywords

Repeat this cycle until you reach the position you want with your keywords.

You can accelerate this by doing it for 2 or more articles at a time, i.e. start a new article into this process every other day or evey third day

You can accelerate this by doing larger amounts for your tasks, i.e. 50 bookmarks vs 30, 100 article directory subs vs 20, etc. A good strategy is to ramp up the numbers from week to week.

Once you get the ranking you want, run through the above 1 - 2 times per month.

Getting ranked is not quick. Making money online is not quick. If you do the above every week, faithfully and without fail, you will eventually end up well ranked for your targeted keywords.

What you do with the traffic is up to you!

I see that on Twitter that you can post a link with the entire http address in a tweet. What I am wondering is if there is a way that they will allow a do follow link with anchor text on your own page? If not, it's not that big of a deal, but it would be a great way to gain another link or two.

Default Re: Step-by-Step Linkbuilding Plan

Hi RedStanford,

As for as using Wordpress, I go with 5 - 10 main keywords. I choose these keywords based on search volume and estimated average CPC in the Google Adwords Tool. I use these keywords for the Pages. I use what I think is the best keyword for the main keyword of the site.

Once I choose my keywords, the first thing I do with a new site is get a 500 - 600 word article written for each one. I use TextBroker go for a level 4 article, so cost here can be $15+. But it seems to me that there's a big difference between level 3 and level 4 articles.

After I get all main keyword pages posted, I run each page through the 7 day series of link building, starting with my main keyword.

I'll then run each one of these keywords through the Adwords Tool to come up with a list of support keywords for each main keyword tool. While I'm doing this, I'm also using Textbroker for 300-word, level 3 articles (about $6 each). I put these on the blog as posts (formatted the way I mention above).

I'll keep an eye on stats - when traffic starts to show up, I see what keywords they are coming in on. I often use these keywords to build out even more focused content in the form of posts.

Now in answer to your question, I recommend you:

Do linkbuilding to each of the existing pages (run each page through the suggested series of linkbuilding efforts I mentioned)
Aim for 2 new posts a week. About 3 days after each post goes live, run it through the 7 day suggested steps too.

I make $2,000 - $3,000 a month and YOU CAN TOO

Can the same article with no changes in the content be submitted on different sites?

Hi Webster,

I post the original article on my site.

I then spin and rewrite that article befire I submit it to article directories. I submit this article to all the directories, I don't do a different article for each directory.

Tips are OK but why you are suggesting Lexorsoft for some parts?

Hey redstanford - let me know how it goes.

For low competition, I see result in 3-6 weeks, but it can take longer for higher competition terms.....

Some more resources

Instead of using Lexorsfot for RSS subs, you can use the free service at pingomatic.com

Also, there's a mass URL ping at BulkPing.com

These services can save you a little as opposed to outsourcing to Lexorsoft.

I use a really crappy free spinner at article-rewriter.appspot.com. I then go through the article and clean it up. This is the what I submit to article directories.

There are a lot better spinners out there, but this one is fast and free. Be prepared to do a lot of cleanup, which I think is a good thing since we all want original content.

Also forgot to mention socialmarker.com for social bookmarks....

Thanks for your input. i was looking for an alternative as I was being led down the 3waylinks path but they said my pages would not load in a normal browser. I'm getting out this that manual link building in a slow fashion is better than automation. I will try your step by step plan. Thanks for the enlightenment.

Hi Sunia

If you're doing it yourself, yes, you need a couple of hours a day.

I outsource everything and it takes me less than 10 minutes. I log into Lexorsoft, order the package I want, fill in the info, and that's it.

Same for TextBroker - log in, order the article I want, wait a day or two until it's done, then log in and get it, post to my blog. In about an hour a day I can do three sites.....

Default what are the most effective types of backlinks

here is what i do:
blog comments
article submissions
forum backlinks
profile backlinks

but i don't know how much to do of each(like by percentage of my total backlinks).
and are there more types that i should do?

i recently read somewhere that blog comments are no longer of any real value, is that true for forum backlinks also?

and say one type of backlinking is really effective compared to the rest is it bad to do just that type of backlinking? (like only article submissions)

thanks warrior forum

The best backlinks, in my opinion, are .gov or .edu links.

The best of these would be a blog post or an article from a .gov or .edu linking to your site, so it's only links to your site from that page.

You can post blog comments on .gov and .edu sites but the high amount of OBLs mean that the link power is heavily diluted from that page.
