how do I go about selling banner space?

hi how do I go about selling banner space? please see below:

1. I saw buy/sell banner websites, have you used any that you can recommend? I read they charge an amount for their service. Is it still interesting to use them even though they charge?

2. Anything else to help me sell banner space - thank you very much

Edit: forgot to say the site(s) also use adsense - do they conflict? I must choose or i can use both banner selling and adsense?
