I have been reading on this forum from long time, i think i am ready to create my own site. I had done my keyword research and want to try on small scale so there is a keyword which has 12,100 search and for "keyword" has 2,900 search. Now the question is the .com domain is not available for the selected keyword would it be ok that i select a country specific domain as i want to rank with my country only ? |

I recommend you do not use those figures as a guide for competition. PM me if you need some help on this. Domain extension should not matter. Just add your website to Google Webmaster Tools and select your country targeting. | |

Keyword research is your critical step. Too many people worry/fret over getting an exact match domain (EMD). EMD's are nice, but it's not that important in getting your site ranked. How many exact monthly searches does your keyword get? Also, if you are targeting a particular country, make sure you check the local search figures and the Google Insights data. |

I use the Google Keyword tool, make sure you select the option EXACT monthly searches and not just the Global Monthly Searches as this will show you more precisely how popular the keyword is be sure to also make sure that the keyword is low competition as this will help tell you what your chances are for ranking up with that keyword.
