Default What to do with an autoblog that hasn't been touched in a year?

Hello everyone, I'm newbie and someone gave me a wordpress autoblog (they gave up on IM) in the weight loss niche. Its about a year old and has about 2500 articles. Some of the articles are poorly written perhaps spinner content; some of the articles are well written but don't seem to target any keywords.

It has 1300 articles indexed in google and no backlinks. It gets about 200 visitors a day.

I would like to build it into an authority site.

I've turned off the autoblog plugin for now should I restart it?

I've deleted the 20,000+ spam comments. and I've deleted some of the poorly written articles.

Now I'm not sure what I should work on first.

So should I focus on deleting the worse articles and building backlinks?

Or let the crappy articles stay and write new content and build backlinks?

Should I rewrite some of the good articles on the site and work on backlinks?

I guess I'm asking what should my priorities be.

Thanks for the help.

Kimberly

Yes delete all worse content and make some good fresh jucie flowing in. Make sure you are not deleting the posts that get traffic, just rewrite those post that get some traffic via google...

Thanks

If you decide to go forward with the site, you will need to write good, unique content and continue doing so over the long term. All of that autoblog "content" isn't going to help much; real content is a must. I think you may be able to turn the site around, and it sounds like you have some good ideas already.

I would also suggest starting a second site on the subject of your choice, and dividing your content creation efforts between that and your existing site. That way, if you aren't able to turn your existing site around, you will have something else in the works - a site with good content and no history as an autoblog.

I am in the same boat and was wondering if it would hurt me to just delete the 1000+ cached articles? Not to hijack this thread but I have 12 sites in the same niche and a handful of them get 10-15k pageviews monthly but with so many articles I imagine a lot of that is bot traffic as this is from AWStats. Should I dump the content and restart?

I have a multi site with 11+ site and 1000+ articles. I get traffic on a some of the pages and some of these don't have too bad of PR. I want to weed through them and get it turned around. The main site is on Page 1 of BING and Page 4 in Google. So, I think the best effort would be to just rewrite some of the old articles and add a bunch of new with unique content.

Seeking my teeth into all this great information.
