I try to keep between 1%-4% density.

Any higher seems to be too much for me.

Why would google care about keyword density?
They don't even know what your keyword is,
let alone give a rip how many times you
use it.

What happens if you accidentally use some other
word too many times? How does google differentiate?

And how does google handle wikipedia? Where every
article is changed constantly...

If people would stop worrying about a formula, write
for humans, they might accidentally succeed.

When assessing page keyword density you need to understand that a high page keyword density of 4.5% isn't significant as it once was as page keyword density isn't as important with the search engines becoming more sophisticated, so when writing content ensure that page keyword density isn't at the forefront because a high page keyword density will reduce the user experience.

As Paul said, the concept of "keyword density" is largely irrelevant. I've always found it a bit comical that folks think it's an important factor that G evaluates.

I keep mine between 1.5 to 3%. Although some think it doesn't matter. On two of my sites that had my target keyword over 4%, I removed a few instances to drop it around 2.5% and the next time the G bot visited my site, it rose several spots on page 1.

Just a couple instances. I'm not saying that's 100% why they rose. I'm just saying what I did and then what happened.

"TAKE ACTION" is the first thing everyone tells you and then they leave it at that. I'll add a second part: TRACK EVERYTHING" - It's the only way to ensure your ACTION leads to results.

Don't worry about the absolute keyword density too much. Just make it natural.
But, you can use a tool like Qirina to check if the relative keyword density is ok. That is, so that googlebot thinks the site is about what you want it to think it is about.

Keyword density is irrelevant when it come to Google, but that is not the case when it comes to article marketing. Depending on what you are trying to accomplish, I would suggest trying to keep your keyword density at 4% or less.
