How do you get your YouTube video to rank?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone knew of good ways to get your YouTube video to rank (either in Google or on YouTube itself)

I recently found YouTube's keyword tool... pretty interesting stuff:

That's certainly a helpful tool! I did not know about it before either!

As for ranking your videos, most of the same things that go for regular websites apply to YouTube videos as well.

-Keyword rich title
-good description
-quality backlinks

YouTube also tends to rank videos higher if they have more likes and views (although this is just one of many factors)

Getting a Youtube video on top of the search engines is similar to how you do SEO to websites. But, you must have a good title, tags and description for your Youtube video. And of course, it should be interesting enough to go viral.

I'll tell you now, you don't even need to rank youtube videos to get 100% targeted traffic.

My brother has 850,000 views in about 4 months with zero external seo. All done with Youtube on-page optimization. He doesn't even care about the SERPs, or ranking on Youtube search & still gets plenty of free traffic.

As well as it having really good on page seo with title tags etc you can build links to it like any other web property.....and with the luxury that its not going to dance about either as google loves youtube so much

As for ranking on youtube itself then the mores views. likes and comments get the better

Yukon - How did your brother pull that off? Is it just one video? I'm assuming it's a highly searched term. How would I even know if I have a shot at pulling those kinds of numbers?

I managed to get one of my Youtube videos to rank number 3 by using the same techniques as I would for a normal website. Obviously on-page SEO is important, using headings etc. Then I just got backlinks. My video has got about 15,000 in the last few months, so pretty happy with that given I didn't really put too much effort into it.

yup everyone is right - for youtube itself then the more views and comments and actual interaction of people watching the video is going to get it ranking better - then for google just build strong backlinks to the video - youre allowed to go a bit nuts here but dont waste your time trying to get a video ranking to super competiive terms as its still only a video page. get the onpage seo right using a good title and description and tags (title and description most important) and the nbuild links. when i say dont waste your time i mean - this: search for your term in google and see if any youtube videos show up there already - if so then theres a good chance you can too - if not find out how far back the videos are - its not a total waste but if you cant get on page 1 theres no much point. the same concepts for link building and competition will apply for a video page too!

Yukon you said he makes money on Adsense? so does he send the traffic to a website url advertised on the vids?

I have a question regarding which URL to build backlinks ....
Once I upload a video to the Youtube. I would like to build backlinks to the youtube video URL to increase its ranking within Youtube search engine.

But there are basically 2 forms of URLs to access my Youtube video :
hxxp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ksss6sUxazg
hxxp://youtu.be/Ksss6sUxazg <-- this is obtained when we click "Share" option.

Assuming hxxp is http.

So which URL should I be building backlinks during blog commenting?

Its all about the competition as with anything you are doing in the form SEO. How much have you analyzed your competition and what have you noticed that they are doing, and or not doing? What can you do better than them? So many things to consider.

Youtube is great and I'm starting to slowly shift more of my focus into ranking videos. As far as the search engines, you'd rank it just as you would any other site. Good on-page SEO (title, tags, and description) and backlinks. I've found that YT videos are pretty easy to rank since the engines LOVE videos.

Backlinks, if they're genuine, might help a bit, but not much. Don't fall into the trap of using link farms -- Google doesn't like that.

But really, whatever tricks you try to use, everyone else is doing the same. Keep your titles brief and accurate, your descriptions full and accurate, and make sure your tags accurately reflect the content of your video.

I use exactly the same method as I would with any normal site. Set the page up with your titles, header etc and then get backlinks coming in.

I've got a video that has got close to 15,000 views in a couple of months just from doing the above.

Just build backlinks to it as usual. Unless you have a very viral kind of video, you still need backlins for it to gain views.

build links smartly and not just any links. I will give some detail tips :

First locate most valuable and traffic giving websites - ezine, docstoc, scribd, articlebase, wordpress, blogger etc.

1) Get 10-12 quality articles (500-600) words and publish on these resources with a link to your youtube video. Remember these are mostly no-follow but we build them for quality and not the backlink power.

2) Create a channel on youtube with main keyword in channel. Download tonnes of videos - upload them to your channel (make sure to use only free ones). Link from other videos to the main video (which has got link to money site or CB)

3) If possible get 2-3 rounds of senuke to this main video and others as well.

4) Then xrumer the senuke and your main backlinks. Also blog comment these links. Remember you have to make this video as an authority video.

After few weeks, this video will start coming up in search results. Make sure you give it a little time and drive traffic to it for views. Shouldn't be that difficult.

Iam doing a test with this theory in self-motivation. Let's see how it goes.

As far as I can tell, you need a really entertaining video, and then it's mostly about views, comments, likes and the popularity of your channel, like the number of subscribers. I can get you cheap views and subscribers from real people.
