74000 Global searches but only 5-7 visitors ?

Hi Warriors,
I am standing at 3rd position for a keyword of which google keyword tool tell 74000 global searches, but only 5-7 visitors come to my site,
I am wandering what is this happening ?

First of all in my opinion 74.000 searches is not so much.

Now depend on what keyword you are looking for.

is that 74,000 EXACT searches?

Which google (Country) are your ranking 3rd in? are any of these 74,000 searches local to that country?

If your site is in first to second position then you can expect many visitors, being on page 1 is not give you more visitors.

I have a site on first position with 50000 hits and I get 15 maybe 20 visitors....so I am not upset the keywords are not that good.

6,800 (exact) searches on BING UK and I getting on TOP1 over 200 visitors per day from that keyword...

Work on appropriate Title, description.

I agree with carmamir, work on your title and description. Maybe it isn't as appealing as your competition to google readers. Compare what they have to yours and make yours more enticing.

You almost certainly were looking at the broad match and not exact match search figures.

It's a very common mistake to make.

There are many cases where url on 3rd or 4th position gets less visitors than which is in 5th or 6th. You may need to work on the description part or even Title. Eye catching or action tempting keywords does the trick.

another challenge here is , if you change the title , changes are there to change the ranking position. So it may be a bit tricky to handle it.

I refuse to believe that title or description is to blame here and find those comments strange because it is obviously impossible to receive less than 1% of the visitors if you are at the 3rd spot regardless of how bad your meta data are.

You definitely checked the wrong search figures. Make sure you check exact match instead of broad match.

Oh yes, keyword has 74000 broad searches,27000 phrase searches, 480 exact searches,
I think my keyword exact searches are very low.that's why there are low number of visitors are hitting.

480 exact matches? That is definitely your problem. You need to do more keyword research and see if you can rank for more than just one. Also try to get to the #1 spot, which will boost your ctr but you dont have many users to work with.

Here we go with a simple mathematics: 480 per month is a 16 per day. The site on the 1st position probably gets this number of visitors.
If you are at the 3rd place, your number of visitor is 5-6, this is exactly what you get.

Yeah, you're going to have to start going after a few higher competition keywords, in addition to trying to take over the #1 spot. If your traffic is EXTREMELY targeted and "ready to buy" then you can do pretty well with 20 or so visitors a day. But you'll need to scale it up and try to get 15-20 visitors across multiple sites.

Yes, I totally agree. It's a common mistake by most of the people who do not go for exact search instead go for broad match type and do the mistake.

check the [exact] match for that keyword it might not be as high as you thought! - also work on the CTR of your ranking link Ie. include the keywrod in the title and description and some kind of call to action that will encourage more lcicks - and finally check the rank in other countries and also search engines - IMO bing doesnt get nearly as many searches as google so we usually just focus on Google. 8000 eaxct month search on google could only be 1000 in bing easily

well, that sounds a bit weird to me because even if you get the stats of the keywords via [exact] search volume, i don't think that it would be less than 5k-7k and if you are no. three then you deserve at least 20% of these search results.
and i would suggest you to check the ranking of your keyword with the help of either SEOSERP or keywordchecker tool, these tool will help you to determine the exact position of your keywords.

Dump the keyword and look at expanding your site to higher searched keywords. Contrary to what everyone is telling, 480 searches a month is 16 a day, it's not worth the effort trying to rank first especially if your keyword is not a buying or help keyword. Expand your internal pages to include keywords within the same niche with a higher search volume and spend your time ranking those instead.

If you are looking at broad match Global searches, it doesn't really tell your keyword's traffic, I have a detail articles here: What is Broad, Phrase, Exact Match Means in Google Keyword Tool?

Broad match is originally designed for PPC user, search marketer should look at exact match. For phrase match, it means the words in order, it includes the long tail version of the keyword's exact searches as well.
