OK, so heres the low down on whats happened. I established the first website, built it all up and built backlinks to it for about 20 days. The target keyword ranked on the 3rd page after around 1 month. Then i decided to change the domain to something more relevant and then redirected the first domain via godaddy forwarding to the second domain. I stopped building backlinks to the first domain and then all of a sudden, the first domain hits the first page in Google USA, for a keyword that gets over 1,000,000 EXACT searches per month and now directs traffic to the new domain which is generating around $125/day from traffic thats coming from the first domain. What the hell should i do? Should i - Leave it as it is and ride the wave - Change something Im just not sure how long these rankings will last with a domain thats forwarding to another. I would obviously want to retain this ranking but im not sure whether to carry on building backlinks to the first or second domain? The biggest issue is that the domain and website on the first one is targeted to keywords that have the word "FREE" in it, where as the second one is targeting a different aspect of the first which has increased conversions. I have not made a sale on the first domain before i forwarded the domain even after around 1000 unique visitors, where as i now make $125/day from around 1000 uniques. What Ive Done So Far: As the first domains meta tags are indexed & targeting the FREE variation of the keyword, i have changed the forwarding option within Godaddy from "forwarding only" to "forwarding with masking" so now the meta tags will reflect the second websites target keyword variations which will increase the response and commissions via traffic from the first domain. What im not sure about is whther the change in the forwarding option will throw my rankings off the first page. Should i carry on building backlinks to the first domain? Or what would you do to take advantage of this position? i look forward to your responses. |

If the keyword you are ranking well for revolves around "free" then look at some way of monetising it to better suit your traffic. If you are able to offer whatever it is that's free, then use the website for list building by offering a free eBook. If you can rank that highly for a well searched keyword, I'd change my strategy to suit the traffic I was able to get. You also have the potential to flip the website. |

What you may find is that your efforts to build backlinks over that period of time may have paid off and the links may have been indexed slowly instead of all at once. I don't think forwarding your domain would have had much to do with it. You could always do a test buy another domain and repeat all the steps from the first domain and see if it repeats itself. |

Btw. Keyword tags has no effect on Google whatsoever, the Googlebot completely ignores it.
