Default Wordpress Themes

Hey guys.

Finally decided to take the plunge and by a domain name / hosting and get my website going. Have installed wordpress, but can't find a good theme for the type of website I want.

I wish to put a couple of articles and a directory on my site. So obviously I don't want to do this in a blog format, but can't find any free themes that aren't designed obviously for bloging. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Also, are certain themes better in terms of SEO? Or are irrelevant?

Thanks.

Do a Google search but remember you get what you pay for.

Pay themes are always better for looks and SEO.

Pretty much all WordPress themes can used in a non-blog format by using Pages instead of Posts.

In terms of SEO, some themes can be better (not in huge terms) if they are efficiently designed for quick loading and comply with the various web standards. Additionally, some themes have in built SEO features that means you don't necessarily have to install additional plugins like all-in-one-seo pack.

Not always true. There are some pretty ordinary paid themes out there and some great free themes.

Pay themes are only better if you don't know how to edit any of the settings of a free theme.

That's totally not true.

Most payed Wordpress themes are built by web designers, not people that know SEO.

If you don't believe me look at Themeforest, most of those payed themes are bloated with javascript.

Sure the themes look good, but looking good doesn't pay the bills.

So could anyone point me in the direction of a good free simple theme? I just want to have a couple of pages on it, a nice clean navigation bar, and a space for a custom advert at the top, and adsense on the right .

Thanks
