Default Here's another reason why you should have quality content

After the post-Panda era, we know that backlinking has changed quite a bit. While backlinking is still important, we need to maintain quality content as they will help in backlinking too.

Why do I say so? Well, you see, I have a website that ranked in top 10 for at least 3-4 years and I did very little backlinking to it, except for the first few months.

I was a little baffled why it maintained such a high ranking when it has 17 million results.

Yesterday, I installed "Addthis" code to this website of mine and I was surprised to see: 129 Tweets

In other words, I have social backlinks from 3rd party. This type of backlinks is very natural in the eyes of Google and they have started to put some weight to this links.

And why do I get tweets for this page? It is because the content is of HIGH quality. It's useful, informative and that's why it was shared, resulting in more natural backlinks.

Now that's one good reason to get quality content!

I agree! I just posted a similar thread here.

Long-term SEO has no single, core definition. It’s not a body of tactics but rather a small set of principles!

Agree, quality contents is your success key to attract visitors. The problem now is how to provide quality content. We know many writers who offer services with varying prices, but few of them who meet the criteria as a quality content maker. Writing your own website content is probably the best way, but by having more than 200 websites will we have time for that?

I think most people are confused with: Unique Content and Quality Content.

Unique content may not be quality. Quality content may not be unique.

Google is looking at quality content. That's why this website of mine stays in top 10 ranking after so many years despite not updating the website.

That doesn't mean you couldnt benefit 10 x over if you have quality back links. On page quality content is a no brainer, its not an SEO method at all, it should just be normal.

Don't get me wrong Im not saying your wrong or anything, I am saying your 100% right, but this doesn't mean that writing quality content will get you to page 1 for a keyword on its own.

A website ranking well is like a good recipie, little bit of this, a pinch of that and you have a perfect recipie for getting your site where you want it, #1.

Its not about doing 1 thing well, its about doing EVERYTHING well.

That is great. But you've got 100+ tweets in a 3-4 years.

The plan is to get such numbers in a few months and this is where we "help" with unnatural tweeting of our backlinks and asking our friends to do the same.

Well, the key that I'm saying here is that while we are doing our best to rank our website, there is just so much that we can do. Google can catch up with all these 'SEO techniques' sooner or later. But, to have social media recommending and sharing links is something that is natural, plus Google is leaning towards such factors too.

And, quality content means I'm writing more for my readers while not forgoing onpage SEO.

I won't know if this is 100+ tweeks over 3-4 years. It could be just past 2 years, past one year, or no tweets for the past one year! However, with all factors remaining constant, tweets seems to be one of the factors that I didn't know helped my ranking.

Plus, I just checked my Analytics, I have quite a good bounce rate and a good number of return visitors. All these contribute to my website rankings.

Quality content need not to be unique. That's one reason why CNN, ABC news network remain authority sites because they they provide quality content, but the content itself may not be unique because of new feeds to and from various sources.

Bounce rate, number of shares via Facebook & tweets, number of returned visitors, etc. There can be other factors too.

Think about it, if the content is of quality, would I be staying on the page longer, return to the same website, share the page with others?

I definately agree on the quality of content!

Just wondering....

When you mention the "Add This" code, is it this:

AddThis - Share Button, Social Bookmark, Sharing Plugins and Module

I want to integrate share buttons into my websites, but have been unhappy with the plugins I have used so far, is this URL the one you are referring too?

And, if so, are you happy with how it works?

Awesome post my friend and you couldn't be more right! Yeah it has to be quality content not just original. You can obviously put original content but if it's crappy and nobody wants to read it...then you won't get many links or visitors.

Well, i can (and so do everybody) "send" thousands of tweeks and LIKEs to any page i want. It is not that hard, cost a few dollars per 100 or 200 tweets.

So what are we talking about here ? Everything can be cooked, from backlinks to social boomarks or so.

So the moral of this thread is to have quality content so people will help you get backlinks naturally.

Quality alone won't get you at the top, nowhere near, even Google says it. Good quality enables you to get natural backlinks (which is always the best) to rank high solidly.

The problem is getting into a position to get eyeballs and natural back linking. That normally takes something unnatural, like back linking services, adwords, etc.

I bet if I put my sites up against a hands on review by google or a group of users, mine would be rated one of the best. But alas, there are sites out there that I am competing with that have over 500k back links! I doubt I would ever come close to that naturally!

That's what Google wants in the end: User experience and we want to provide that too.

The reason why that happens is because Google haven't reach that niche yet. Rest assured that if you have quality content and backlinking, you will rank. But then, how would you know that the content is bad? Maybe they are good in the eyes of a group of people?

To give you an example, I have seen a couple of webpages that are as old as 2005 and they are still ranked at the top of Google. There is one page that I always go back as a reference because it is so useful to me and that page never change for the past 5+ years!

Sure, everyone can do this, and Google knows.

Precisely, Google wants to see people naturally link to your site, and other than just backlinking, you want another area of natural backlinking.

While performing your SEO backlinking, you have quality content to attract natural backlinking.

I agree with you! If you watch Matt Cutts videos, he does agree that we need to do SEO on-page and off-page because if we don't do so in the beginning, there is no way that people will find your content.

The key that Google may want to see is: After you SEO your way to the top, do the searchers want to see your website? Do the searchers stay long enough and bookmark your sites? Do the searchers share your website links with others? Do the searchers add "Google +1"?

All these factors are weighted in by Google and it can count towards your longevity of your ranking.
