or not at all.

directory submission is really a waste of your time which could be spent doing something more imaginative and useful for your users. just a thought

Nothing to see here

Submitting to small directories might not really be worth the effort.

However, if you'd like to do it anyway, I think you should probably hire someone to do it for you.

If you go to a site like scriptlance.com, freelance.com, etc., you'll probably find someone who'll find the sites for you, AND submit to them for a very reasonable rate.

It costs nothing to post a project and see how it goes. If nobody bites, then no harm done. If you DO find someone, you'll only pay whatever his/her fee is, plus a small ($5 or so) fee to the site itself.

Agreed. These sites are usually very slow to approve your links as well as time consuming to create them.

Although blog commenting is not the strongest way to do it your time would be much better spent commenting on relevant hr pr blogs.

I assume, seeing as though you're talking about listing your site, you're referring to web directories, not article directories. Such is the nature of these sites, they almost all have a full range of categories and sub-categories available; you should, therefore, in theory, be able to find on almost any of them a relevant section to which to submit your site.

That said, submitting your link to the relevant category doesn't exactly give you the best type of context-relevant backlink. Directories don't tend to house a great deal of content and provide very little by way of incentive for people to link to them. As such, they have very little authority and, by extension, are typically a pretty weak source of backlinks.

So from an SEO perspective you'll have little to gain by submitting to them, I would think.

You also have to question when was the last time you used a web directory to discover a new site. I also think you'll gain very little (if any) referral traffic from them, too.

In other words, in my humble opinion, it's a total waste of time.

Just forget directories alltogether. Totally useless for backlinks.

Spend your time and money for other backlinks and ranking methods.

Search on Google with do-follow directory list. Manual submission is worthful than software.

Depends on your niche. Directories aren't a waste of time, especially if you can find the good ones. Search for directories that rank for your keyword and get in them. Often times, they offer good deals on their networks for promotion.

I agree that website directories still have some value. I have quite a few low competition micro niche websites that are on Google page one with the help of directory links. Some with only a few total backlinks made up of web directory and social bookmarks.

Not every site needs thousands of backlinks, or even high quality backlinks. Web directory submissions are easy and there are plenty of good free ones that are worth the time to submit to. I agree they're not as powerful as other types of links, but still serve a worthwhile purpose.

Directory submission, still counted by Google as a back link. I know, it is time consuming. If u submitted your site in high pr and related directories, you get better results.

Ohhww dear alive555, I think you want your website on good ranking in one night.

Good question, first of all do Google search for find list of niche directory than think about link submission.

What is your niche? I have list of niche directory on two different niche. If your niche is related to mine than i have no problem for sharing my resources with you.

imtalk.org has a feature, where you can basically add your site to directories automatically. You just need to register.

Hey mate!,

Web is full of stuffs, softwares that will make you lazy at certain amount of money or may be free but as you might have heard a say of 'Doing own work oneself, will make your accomplish it properly', and something similar is the case with search engines specially Google. Now if you will found somehow of getting backlinks using softwares, your site's rankings will be dropped soon. Manual submission is the best way to submit as here you are aware of everything to be filled properly as per yours and search engines requirement as well.

Also, to get your niche related directories just type in Google "niche directory sites submission" "'mention your niche' directory submission" and you will many results and directories too.

I do it every single time with my sites when I launch them. Depending on the site, I may get a backlink or two

Probably just concentrate on a couple of top quality directories, then as previously mentioned aim for other types of link.

hi,
if you are looking for directory submission then go for demoz(FREE) & yahoo directory (PAID) which Google looks into. other than that i don't think submitting your website in the rest of the directories.
if you still want to do it, hire someone and get the job done but if i was in your shoes i would have only gone for yahoo & demoz & nothing else.
