This is the first time I'm pitching my SEO services and I'm not sure what timeframe I should tell them to expect before they notice improved rankings. Assuming I put in all the effort for backlink building, citations, SEO audits, a little social media...what would you guys say?

Before plane to rank your website or keywords you should concentrate on on-page seo because the main and effective thing is on-page seo then you should start work on off-page seo. However, try to get high quality, do-follow and relevant backlinks then you can achieve your goals rapidly.

Normal time is 3-6 months, but there different keywords rank for different time, the time can be more than a year, or less that a week, if you know how to do it.

So what separates a year from a week in terms of improved ranking turnover?

hey mate, the timeframe google needs for a site to go upward or downward in the search results pages depends mainly on different circumstances.. specially the importance of sites getting ranked high.. letīs imagine you targeting a keyword that wikipedia.com holds a number one position.. most probably this wikipedia url would have thousands of backlinks pointing to it.. so in this event..getting the number one spot is somehow a matter of patience and consistence!! just explain this to your customer and wish a very successful career as a SEO service marketer!! cheers to all.. |

It will depend on keyword weightage and I think it will take 3 to 4 months to appear on first page.

But do you say that it takes 3-4 months just in the fact that it takes that much time to acquire X many backlinks? It certainly doesn't take that long for spiders to count the backlinks and give you a page rank score. I figure that the moment after you acquire your competitor's # of backlinks + 1, it takes a matter of days before the spider sees that + 1 and bumps you in the rankings. Of course I'm being simplistic but I'm just trying to figure out if the timing issue is mostly weighed towards acquiring links vs. Google recognizing those SEO efforts.

You are, after all, selling services... How long did it take for the plethora of sites that you have worked on in the past? Did you ever work on any sites? Didn't you keep track of "how long" ? Nobody here can answer the question. Before pitching one's services, one should have services to pitch, along with a track record. I myself would be mad if I was hiring someone and they and they had to go to the WF to ask, "How long?" Paul

I understand that concern. This is my second client. My first client already had good rankings and I focused mainly on best practices and SEM. This client referred me to a new client and now I'm pitching them based on limited experience. But hey, a client is a client and I need to start somewhere.

The original question was concerning improved rankings, not the #1 position. I'd say after whatever effort you put in, the client should start noticing improvements in a week or two with a peak in 30-60 days. Obviously there will be other factors like competitor efforts, your own clients efforts and organic back linking that will continue to alter the results, but for the most part, I think google will process everything you do and render the end result between 30 to 60 days. |

wait on google? Newsflash: Google changes the algo at least twice a day. 60 days? Then no improvement, so you what, give up? I have to wait 30 days?!?!?! Man what about my competition in those 30 days? Are they waiting? The question cannot be answered. Period. But at least we now have THE answer. Your SEO efforts do not go into effect until 30-60 days. Take notes! Paul

Before Google updates every 3 months or 6 months but now because of the new algorithm, they updates randomly anytime and we can say that you can see the result in a month or two.

Only experience will tell you this kind of thing, but even then, no one can tell for sure. Unless you work for Google, and had an integral part in writing their algorithm, it's hard to be sure. 3-6 months in my experience is usually a decent time frame to start seeing some ranking results. occasionally my sites rank sooner, occasionally they never rank at all, but work on 3-6 months

Agreed. Off page SEO is last. Sort out the site first then do the backlink building. No amount of backlink building will help if the site is garbage.
