once a site achieves a high ranking for a keyword, lets say medium competition and lets say position #2 on page 1, does it take a lot of SEO work to maintain that keyword so it keeps it ranking? i imagine it is alot more labor intensive moving up the rankings than it is holding onto a position, right? reason i ask is because i'm outsourcing my seo and i'm getting close to the #1 spot for a few kw's and i want my guy to switch focus to other lower ranked kw's. i still want him to maintain the original kw's rankings but i want him to focus the majority of his time on the new kw's. |

Depends on your competition. If your competing sites for your keyword are aggressively link building and working to outrank you, it will require more work to maintain your ranking. You'll know how hard you have to work by keeping a close eye on what your competitors are doing.
