First question, how did you get to page 1 for those keywords? Whatever the answer then just repeat to increase rankings. When you get to page one then high pr links help a lot. You can get these by joining a homepage backlink network, high pr blog commenting, guest blogging, joining amr aln type networks to name a few. |

Just keep doing what you're doing, add more quality backlinks from some private blog networks like BuildMyRank - i've had some great success with it.

Assuming you've done your keyword research properly, is it at all possible that your chosen keywords are seasonal?

It seems you have been following the right paths because your improvements in ranks already approve your methods. The fact is that after reaching the first page of Google, every single movement towards the higher spots will demand a lot of work. This is of course quite natural because your domain is to gain trust of Google, to prove it deserves better ranks than the other numbers above you. Links and contents can help but you are recommended to remain patient also. You know, sometimes a website might need weeks of constant work before it goes up just one position, especially in competitive niches and markets which are crowded with hundreds or even thousands of web portals operating from all over the world. Try researching the net, attempting to gain some one-way links which come from authority spots, if you manage to get a few of them, you will experience boost in ranks, because quality outweighs the quantities of the links. |

The question is how many global and local monthly searches does your keyword have? I think you should work on what keywords to target first. The traffic will just follow.

I agree that the popularity of your keywords is what you need to focus on. Perhaps there's just not enough traffic on those words. Now that you've ranked for them, which is great, you could set out to find some other words that relate to your site or some long tail keywords that are very specific to what you provide.

I appreciate your comments and time spend on researching the things. I am targeting the following keywords: "Student", "student free stuff", "student deals", "student advice", "student discount", "student stuff" Competition is very high, but still i have managed to get on 2nd position for few keywords. I am still working on getting more authentic backlinks. I may be doing something wrong with RSS as i submit everything manually(besides comments, forum profiles) after the submission i do bookmark the result links. DO i need to create the RSS of those result links and then submit that RSS to burner to get quick listing of the backlinks? Also i do keep on pinging all the resul links through Linklicious.me Comments Appreciated. Regards, Kbshah555 |

My opinion, students don't want to Google about anything study/school related, I know I sure didn't. Maybe beer, girls, parties and whatever else. I think "student deals" might be a good one, but ranking for "student" is too broad and who do you think will type in "student" into a search engine? Maybe someone looking for porn but certainly not someone you're looking to sell to |

For your niche, you want to look at more than just how many searches a keyword is getting. What would students type into Google to find the stuff you're providing? I know parents might type basic keywords in, but students wont.

Do you have a good Meta Description for your web pages? A good meta description will make people more likely to click on your website, which can greatly improve your amount of traffic.
