I know that there is a lot of fraud when it comes to ppl selling domains with fake pageranks.

How can i go about making sure a pagerank is 100% legit before i pay for them?

Do a google search for info:domain.com. Make sure the domain that comes up in the search results matches the domain that you typed in.

I also like to use http://www.rankchecker.com/

Yep, use this method. You should use at least three methods to get an idea of what the official PR of the website.

Google toolbar will show you the accurate pagerank of the site. As well as show the pagerank for the inner pages of the site also.

Go to Google.com and search

info:http://YourWebsiteURL.com

and if in the result page if it shows the same URL as you entered then PageRank is not fake.

You can also use Majestic SEO to see the link profile of the domain name. A domain name that has a good number of backlinks and has PR is worth buying. A domain name with good (real) PR and no domain name should be given a second thought.
