Default Google Change - No Longer Sharing Keyword Search

On October 18 2011 Google announced that users logged into their Google accounts who search using Google (http) would be redirected to https. As a result, search query terms by these users would not be made available to website owners via web analytics. These keywords would be masked using the term "not provided".

I've calculated the affect on one of my sites since the change and 18% of the total visits are reported as "not provided". This sucks because I have no idea what keywords brought them there.

I was listening to a podcast today that discussed this subject and they said that there is an exception to the new criteria: if a logged in user clicks on one of your ads, then you'll get the keyword info.

Do you think this is an attempt by Google to push PPC?

You can still track keyword/traffic that land on your pages from a Google search.

I run this plugin on my WP sites, you can setup the plugin to only show results on the Admin. pages.

Very Cool SEO Plugin!

I haven't tested the https search to see If it tracks those.

Thanks Yukon. Unfortunately the site I was referring to isn't a blog and it doesn't run on Wordpress. But in any case, I would be curious to know if the plugin retrieves all keywords, even those masked as "not provided".
