PPC Newbies Should Start With Yahoo PPC

All you hear about when it comes to PPC marketing is Google. But a lot of people forget about the power of Yahoo Search Advertising.

Yahoo Advertising is better for newbies because it allows you to link directly to your affiliate site and you don't have to go through a landing page (like with google). This means newbies don't even need their own website to start making money.

Yahoo is also awesome because when you sign up with $30 you can get $100 worth of advertising free. I did this and I made over $300 with my first $30...not bad ay?

When I am a professional affiliate marketer then I will switch over to Google. But Yahoo is definately the place for newbies

True, but Yahoo has two big disadvantages:
1. You'll burn money much easier if you don't pay attention to your account configuration. So, for total newbies, it can become a real money grave.
2. The traffic volume is really low, so you have to stick with broader search terms instead of more targetted search terms to generate a reasonable ammount of clicks.

Btw, Google allows direct affiliate links as well and doesn't necessarily give them a bad quality score, it just blocks your ads if someone else is already using the same affiliate program links for the same keywords.

It's not bad, but I personally found Google alot easier to start with.

I have heard that you can test your campaigns out on Yahoo just to see if you will be profitable then swich over to the Big G. I had disapointments on G so far. I think i'll try Yahoo next. Does anyone know if Yahoo is very strict on copyright infringment?

No legitimate company is going to flat out allow you to infringe on someone else's copyrights.

I had one ad that made nearly 5 thousand dollars this month from direct linking on google! So direct linking is still alive, as long as you know how to do it properly.

I find YSM to be more difficult compared to Adwords. And one more thing, you have more control on your ads in Adwords compared to YSM.

I’ve been checking out those services as totally newbie and I found some tips for google given by google service. Just write adwords and there is a whole school of explanation. It is not that simple but it could help

MSN campaigns can also be a good starting place. I have found it to do less volume but better ROI.

How big is the gap between the two search engines? I’m not an expert but even though the numbers for yahoo are big, Google has taken a definitive lead ever since they started, and I believe the gap is do to widen even more with time, so why not learn about the one that has been the biggest one and that may continue to grow even more than its competitors?

I've found that Yahoo and MSN PPC have higher quality (albeit much lower volume) traffic compared to Google. If you think about it, it makes sense too: Generally speaking, people who use Yahoo and MSN are likely to be older and slightly less tech savvy people. There's a higher percentage of product buyers and less browers in this demographic.

A strategy that some PPC marketers use is to use Yahoo to find keywords that convert first, and then scale it up with Adwords afterwards.

Your somewhere 99% true...hehehe... I have an experience of this, all my sales came from MSN, Yahoo!, but not Googs... I waiting for G to give me some.

So then, what types of products would you suggest for making successful sales through YSM? I'm using Yahoo! now with CPA offers and new CB products but without any conversions. I then realized that the Yahoo! users are as you said, "likely to be older and slightly less tech savvy people". So now, I'm searching for products to promote via PPC in Yahoo! to make sales.

YSM has coupons available. I hear one now is for $199 but the $100 or $75 seem fairly more common. Basically, you need to find one of those links (Google search) and click it. When you are taken to the YSM page, it'll say "Sign up now. Receive $xxxx" or something to that affect. If it doesn't say you get $xx rebate/coupon than when you create your account - you don't get it. So make sure you click a link and the page says you get that much in your account at the ''sign up'' button.

Then, create a dummy campaign just to set up your account. You need to deposit $30 dollars into your account to activate it. Within 2 days +/- you will receive your $xx coupon/rebate amount.

When you set up campaigns, make sure you set your CPC at 0.30c USD or less or about 10% of what commission you would earn from a sale. So if you are promoting XYZ CB product and earn a $25 dollar commission per sale, only set up a campaign that uses keywords that will cost 0.25c USD per click OR LESS.

Also, YSM will automatically charge your credit card when it believes your account balance will get low based upon what campaigns you have set up and for the daily spending limit you have created. If you don't like this you can email them and ask them to turn it off. Alternatively, you may use a PayPal account and simply turn off the payments to YSM vendor OR use a pre-paid visa from your bank. I bought a $30 visa credit card from my bank, set up my account, got my $75 credit and then am just using that. They can't charge my credit card any more because it was pre-paid.

let me get this straight...I can sign up as an affiliate for a product, then get a google ad that uses the affiliate link as the url, and when folks click, they go directly to the products actual site via my affiliate link and if they buy, I get paid? that sounds too good to be true...it seems as if simply using targeted keywords and a high converting product will make you rich...???

OK so how do you do it properly?

When I direct link, I don't get a good CTR and when I upload a landing page to my website, I get a decent CT but no conversions.

I don't completely agree with this statement.
Google still allow direct linking, and I can say that I still direct link to a merchant/affiliate site with bids around 0.5 to 0.10.
Note : It's all depends on your affiliate/merchant that you promote's page, whether it's accomply with Google's term.

I do the opposite of what you're doing, I usually start with Google before porting them out to Yahoo.
The reason is, if you're new and don't have $500 a month spending yet, then setting campaign in Yahoo is pain in the ass...

In the contrary, Google make it very easy for anyone, any newbie, who start with less then $50 to use their powerfull and FREE Adwords Editor to create as many ads with as many keywords as possible in a very simple an easy way.

If you have zero experience, then I suggest you to :

- Go find a decent training on PPC $30 a month or Perry Marshal's ebook would be great.
- Join PPC Classroom that has just reopened. Check my signature below
- Start with $100 investment in Google Adwords and get WET!
- Go to cbengine.com and find some good Clickbank product,
- Pick a decent look product page.
- Research and grab related keywords with free Google's tool
- Start create campaigns and promote the product.
- Split the keywords to their own adgroups.
- Don't forget to use sid/tracking code for every keyword you are using.
- Bid for $0.10 - $0.15 for a start. Go higher (0.15) on exact keyword. and lower (0.10) for broad match
- Keep tracking for clicks, spending and commission.
- You may want to wait to 100 to 300 clicks before decide the keyword is profitable or not.
- Rinse and repeat.


The point here is, you'll never see the power of PPC if you not taking action and not dare to invest some good money.

I know $100 is a lot for some people who just get started.
I did afraid that I'll waste my $100 when I started.

$100 is a month income for average High School Graduate here in my country.

But hey, if I didn't spend those $100 at first time, I will still afraid of PPC and I won't spend up to $800 a month by now.

If I didn't spend those $100 at first time, I won't have the sweet taste of commissions I'm enjoying now

As I read through the posts here, even though I am new myself to SEO, I wonder how much any one person knows or understands about it when they jump on the bandwagon and start putting money into it. I can't imagine some of the people who have posted here have even attempted it yet. Myself included. However at least I am TRYING to do some research before blowing my money.
