Default What are good numbers when choosing a KW?

When choosing a KW what are good numbers:

In regards global/monthly searches?

If you say high, why high?

Low...why low?

I am a beginner so speak to me as though I am clueless.

For instance, competition...what should that be...given a choice?

Unless your product can be bought internationally, then the only figures you should be looking at are local/exact match. An acceptable search volume is directly related to the price of the product and how easy it will be to rank well. If you're selling an $800 product, then you would probably be happy with 500/mo search volume. But if you are selling a $20 product, you probably want to have 10,000+, etc... There is no set number to shoot for, just experiment and see how it goes.

Also, get rid of that sig link man. It's kinda insulting to promote a "coming soon" info product that you have no expertise in to IM'rs here that don't want to get scammed.

Agreeing with ryanjm here!

Totally depends on the monetization, if you are doing Adsense then 1000 searches a month is not a lot regardless of the cpc. However if you are getting $300-500 a lead/sale then it is worth going after.

I also have to second ryanjm about the sig link!! What an absolute joke to hype some ebook, especially about Adsense and keyword selection when it appears you are not so much an expert!! Maybe we will see some parts of this thread copied in the ebook!!

Keyword research for everyone is different. Are You selling books in Your garage? Then You don't need to know if someone in other side of the world is searching for them, he wont buy them from You anyway.

Competition should depend on Your skills. Beginners should spend more time researching low competition keywords, while SEO professionals don't.

The best keywords usually are long tail targeted keywords. For example if you are selling books, You would make more money 10 visitors from kw "buy Harry Potter books online" , than hundreds from "online books".

Not sure whether this is a serious question. Are you trying to print in black-and-white that you want to know what are the good numbers to choose a KW, and then in other colors announcing an e-book that's coming up, promising to solve people's problems of selecting keywords?

What's up?

EDIT: By the way, about Nietzsche, this is the only one that I know about: Nietzsche

Did you mean "niches" or something? That relates better to IM than the only Nietzsche I am aware of, unless there are other Nietzsche's that I need to know about.
