Maxed out my blocked urls the other day. Knew this would happen. You can only block 500. What does one do when more idiot ads are on your pages? I thought I was done and just had to bite the bullet. Actually got a hustlercasinoLA ad! On a family site! I had fooled around with the category blocking before but never took the time to really work it. But now I have. Clicked on the blocking general categories to see what I can do. You are allowed 50. So, first order of business was to zero in on the category of the most idiotic ads. Bingo! Blocked! Unfortunately, this took up 21. Found the second most peskiest. This blocked another 20 or so. Now I'm to about 41 blocked categories. I've got 9 precious ones left. I ignore all cats that have had zero impressions. Why waste em? I dig deeper on some others. Bingo! I selectively blocked 9 other categories! I wiped out all 500 of the previous blocked sites and started from scratch. Now that filter is growing, but I feel I will never need to fill it up. Blocked several, then went back and tweaked the general cats again. I can live with a little. So far, so good! If you are really getting idiotic ads, have a look at blocking general categories. It seems to work quite well. The only minor problem I have had is that some individual ads cannot be easily categorized, and I suspect google has many ads that are not. Paul |
