With a regional domain, it'll be easier to rank for the local Google pages, but with proper SEO work, you can reach top positions with a general .com as well for local searches. Choose the one that'd be more fitting to your business, and in a customer's point of view, would be more appealing. |

To rank well in a specific country it is better to have links from the country specific top level domains. Hosting within that country also helps.

Kithara: Rather than focusing on the domain name, focus on the geo-source of incoming links. We have made this exact experiment and although co.uk ranked FASTER (ranked in the top10 much faster) eventually the .com ranked higher and better (with the same number of quality backlinks to both and roughly the same amount of quality content on both). PLUS : Keep in mind that co.uk will rank purely in the UK, where as the .com will rank for the kw everywhere else as well. Just my 2 cents. Sincerely, Buyseech |

Thanks guys got some very useful input ... in my country there are many restrictions on getting generic words as domains ..so am having trouble getting the names i need.. so i might eventualy screw them and get a .com instead .. The way i saw it.. was that a .com.uk domain would appear more friendly and safe to people from the uk but i was unaware if any significant difficulty's i might encounter later on while trying to rank well localy.. |

| This gives me an idea.. maybe we should have a poll.. and see the results from people that have used both .com and regional domains .. and bust this myth once and for all ..
