Default Newbie: looking for help with finding a niche and keyword research

Hi,
I know there will be a great concise post on this somewhere but I have been online for many hours now trying to put together a plan to get me off the brad line in 2012.

Not to give you the sob story but I was made redundant on friday (merry christmas), so funds are limited.

I am basically looking for help with finding the right niche to enter. I know this is something to do with keyword research but am looking for information on low cost tools and methods to help find my niche.

Any help would be appreciated and appologies if it's been asked a million times before (been a long day).

Cheers,

Tim.

Hy Tim, sorry to hear about the redundancy (it happens!)

Google External Keyword tool is best. Just a piece of advice though - if you haven't done this before, don't go buying hosting and domain on a whim. Do thorough research. I sort of went in head first without planning when I was desperate too. Just so you know, you won't get returns as quickly as Xmas or New Year (if that's what you are hoping for!)

Either way, good luck!

hey tim

ok to give you a start... the big hungry markets are:

1. make more money
2. health and fitness
3. dating 7 relationship
4. Passionate hobbies.

you can use google keyword tool, its free, and powerful, if you do wish to get a tool, i would recommened to purchase Market samurai, it uses google keyword tool anyway, but it also offers, seo tracking etc.

once you decide on what market you wish to enter, then draw up a plan on your strategy, one big hint to you is this:

HINT# BUILD YOUR LIST ... you need to start building a list of people that are interested in products or services in your market.

there are plenty of threads in this forum on list building, and using market samurai and google keyword tool.

I suggest you start reading books, on business, sales, marketing etc, these will help you emminsley... hopefully this has kind of helped you, i say take small steps at a time... if you need more help just ask people in this forum will certainly help you out... ill look out for you in the forum and see how you get on, if you need more help just ask in here

good luck

The easiest way to find good product to promote is to go to cbengine.com and use their advance search filters to find out the top products in each niche. Pick 1 or 2 (or 5) and head over to the google keyword tool and do some keyword research. I have a cool video on keyword research here: www.linebelowdigital.com. It's geared toward offliners, but the principals are the same.

Hope that helps.

Make sure when you are doing your keyword research to use "exact" search matches rather than broad. Otherwise the results can be very misleading.

Also ignore the "competition" bars in Google Keyword Tool. You can use them as a very vague guideline but they are really talking about competition for the keyword inside google adsense's advertising service.

To get a better idea of competition you need to have a look at the top 10-20 websites in the search rankings for that keyword. Use free tools like backlink checker They are not truly accurate but they can give you an idea.

You are looking for a keyword where the top sites don't have too many backlinks and where the anchor text. Look at the link i used for the backlink checker. It leads to backlinkwatch.com but the anchor text is. Often these sites rank but their links are not well anchored. You can beat sites with a few hundred backlinks but will have trouble beating ones with over 500. You can do it but it will take longer and from what you have said time is not something you have a lot of.

If you would like some free 1-1 coaching i am more than happy to help. just let me know. My skype details are available under my picture. Good luck either way m8.

Hi Tim,
The first thing I would say is sorry to hear about your redundancy. What I'd like to point out is that don't try to correct your situation by using internet marketing. The reason for this is that very few people make a dime in the beginning, let alone enough to cover the cost of living.

So my advice would be try to look for another more stable job, while at the same time building up your online business. This will take the pressure off you and ensure that you can work on it slowly and make the right decisions.

When it comes to selecting niches, it depends what business model you are using. Are you doing the Amazon thing, or Clickbank? Perhaps you're doing CPA?

You have to either pick a product to sell first, or a market to sell stuff to. Decide on that part first.

I've done both, but lately I am targeting a specific market, and then finding products to market to them over and over again. I think this seems to be the way to go.

So give that some thought and go from there. Use a keyword tool to determine if there is enough demand for your product and start optimizing your site from there.

All the best

You don't need a paid tool in order to find a niche. A niche is a group of people who have a problem and are willing to pay for a solution. Finding a niche is not that difficult. Magazines are one place to start. There's a saying that goes, "Where there's a magazine, there's a niche." Millions of dollars are poured into them to ensure they are successful -- lots of research is done beforehand.

Also, you can think of some things you have interests in. If you have an interest in something, chances are lots of other people do, too. I'm gonna give you a list of common niches, but before that, it's important that I tell you that the niche you choose should be one that's both profitable and one you like because your gonna have to stick with it to make big money.

dating

weight loss

golf

learn Spanish

video games

cooking

make money

pet care

learn guitar

gardening

toys

quit smoking

electronics...the list goes on. Before you can find keywords, you should define your niche and get to know the people in your niche. Also, when it comes to keywords, product-related keywords convert the best. Be sure to find products in your niche and familiarize yourself with them. This will make finding keywords a piece of cake.

Good luck,
Joey

While this is not "keyword" I always look for hungry markets first, before I find key words to target. One free tool is CB Trends (not an affiliate link so i think it is okay to post it?). It shows you what is "hot" in clickbank for many categories. Very easy to use.
