Default Backlinks from Crazy sources

I did a backlink check on a site that ranked number 1 in google for a search term.

It had around 1000 backlinks.

Let us say the niche was Baseballs.

The backlinks were on all sorts of crazy sites.

For instance: Scientist Science Papers Collection.com
Jewishservices
Forex exchange

All sorts of sites that had nothing to do with niche. The pages had lists of articles.

Are these sites set up to handle SEO and this is where the people who hire out to build backlinks put them?

How can Google not determine that this is a scam?

Also, a lot of the articles were written by someone without a good understanding of English.

So what it be? Edumacate me

I like your question, however, I am in the same boat also. I have no idea. I would like to post an addition to the question that you asked:

Why wouldn't they build mass links and actually classify and link these websites based on the type of business that they are trying to promote?

You know there are quite a few third world countries with English as their first language. The brits once had a bunch of colonies about the globe.

What you're seeing is probably a private blog network. They're very effective for ranking, but it's up to you to decide if that's what you want.

If you're in it for the long-term, that might not be the best route. Google is changing and getting better to cancelling out links that game their system. Plus they're doing manual reviews of the serps for high traffic/value keywords.

just because a backlink isnt relevant, doesnt mean its not potent for SEO purposes.

if you had a micro niche, and had to have every single backlink related to your niche to rank, well you would be out of luck.

I think people waste a lot of time trying to get relevant backlinks, when in that time they could have for 10 non relevant. If the content on the page that the link is on is relevant to the URL / Anchor text then thats enough I think.

I will add my few cents...

I come from non-English country. During my last 2 years my main(only!) backlink strategy was adding forum profile backlinks(mostly from Angela). As you can imagine 100% of website given by Angela had nothing to do with neither my nieche nor my language. Believe it or not, but I am in top 3 on page1(Google).

So as I was also worried about relevancy I never experienced that problem with my websites.

Grey hat > whitehat =/< BH

All backlinks are going to help in serps, relevancy make them more valuable yes but, honestly I'm starting to think more and more that Google chats BS about their own algorithm.

Nice ideas. I am hoping that Google is only BS'ing. I would however talk any opportunity to make your links relevant if you could. Don't see how it could ever hurt.

There's nothing crazy about it. It's not like there's some kind of law that says you're only allowed to get backlinks from pages who are in the same niche as you. Sure relevant backlinks are stronger, but that doesn't mean that non-relevant ones are useless.

If you wanted to go for these types of links just protect your main sites.

Build these types of links to other domains then point them domains to your main site.

For example buy a few domain names related to your main site then build your so called crazy links....to these new domains and then point them new domains to your main site.

If you would like more info on how to set this up let me know and I'll help.

Nice point.Google seems to count only the link not the quality of links.

Why not be safe and seek out quality rather than quantity? I think in the long run, this will be a huge investment to anyone's future. "Relative" is the way.

Who said only niche-related websites can give you an inbound link? We can't control who would give us inbound links. Getting backlinks from niche-related websites is beneficial, get backlinks from other sites won't be harmful, unless you overdo it.

Backlinks located on sites that are totally unrelated to a site's niche are powerful if that site has a high PR, the backlink is dofollow, and the anchor text used is the targeted keyword. A backlink does not need to be related to a site's niche in order for it to increase a site's ranking.
