Just thinking out loud here and wanted to see what others would say. I personally monetize my videos and have often wondered why people that have their pets on videos and put them on YT...they sometimes end up thousands (sometimes millions) of views. Just wondering why ppl that own the rights to the videos don't monetize them? And also - wouldn't YT invite them to become a YT partner - even if they have one video with a lot of views? |

I know exactly what your saying. It's incredible to see a video that is clearly owned by some individual & have millions of views, not being monetized. I've had that conversation with my brother a few times, he is into Youtube/Adsense & finds videos like that all the time. The last video was something like 65 million views & no Adsense, lol, If they only knew the money they were wasting... Some Youtube/Adsense math to think about: 65,000,000 (views) - (95% (5% CTR on Adsense)) = (3,250,000 (Adsense clicks)) (3,250,000 (Adsense clicks)) x ($0.05 (per Adsense click)) = $162,500 Heck even a 1% CTR at $0.05 would be $32.5K |

I was under the impression that you can't monetize unless you're part of the partner program. Has that changed?

Logic would hold that google would not invite many youtube partners, as google would then need to split the money. Google readily monetizes youtube videos on their own. Haven't you ever watched a video of your own, and seen adsense pop up? Maybe people can turn off ads or something on their videos. I just got the invite the other day. I'm thinking google wants to sign up more little people, as they want more people promoting videos. They are not worried about ones that get a zillion views. Money's already flowing. First order of business is to indeed monetize my pets. I've got a koi pond and birds. I'm thinking of putting squidoo and yt to work on this one. Paul |

I'll admit that I'm not very familiar with the YT Partner Program, so excuse me if I'm wrong. But isn't it a pretty tough process joining the partner program unless Google specifically invites you? If so, that's probably the case. Most people don't have the "marketing" mindset that we all do. The average person who takes a funny video of their dog just wants to put it somewhere where their friends and family can see it. Even if it blows up and gets tons of views I doubt they'd even think or know about becoming a partner unless specifically contacted. |

I only had around 10 videos with maybe 30K views, I know it wasn't a lot of views. My brother does Youtube/Adsense & he has over 1.1 million views, on 200+ videos, in less than 6 months. Anyone that gets into Youtube/Adsense, they are very serious about copyrighted videos. You have to own 100% of the audio + video to monetize with Adsense on Youtube, don't even think about trying to monetize a single video you don't own. If you do these two things your golden with Youtube/Adsense:

When you post your videos to YT, how do you get the traffic? Do you let YT do the work, or is there backlinking done behind the scenes? Just curious because I was invited to the adsense pgm about 6 months ago. I have 3 videos. One has recently gone from 200 views to over 2K! I was surprised. Where in adsense can you tell how many clicks/views your ads in the video are getting? |

Videos don't need millions of views in order to have Adsense displayed on them. I've got a video with several thousand views and Google contacted me about placing ads on my video. As for backlinking, if it's a video that people like they will share it with their friends. When they share it with their friends it will hopefully go viral - increasing your revenue. |

My understanding is YouTube does revenue sharing in two different formats. The partner program, where all of the partner's videos can be monetized is one. The other one is done on a video by video basis where users are invited to share revenue on the single video. Now if I could only remember where I read that.... |
