Got a question for y'all! I know that anchor text in backlinks helps a site to rank for whatever keywords it contains (google bombing being a great example) What I'd like to know is whether one instance of anchor text can help you rank for more than one keyword. For example If you used anchortext of affiliate marketing techniques would the search engines count that as a match with affiliate marketing, affiliate marketing techniques AND marketing techniques. Or, would it only count as a match for affiliate marketing techniques. I know that in general content the use of that keyphrase would cause matches for all three but I'm not sure about how anchortext is treated. I'm sure someone knows the answer to this from experience. |

Google is hard to understand when it comes to this. honestly, i would shoot for pushing "affiliate marketing techniques" as it includes all your keywords in one.

Hi Jared Thanks for your input. If I wanted to specifically gain ranking for 'affiliate marketing' though... would I be better to have that alone as the anchor text just in case google didn't automatically rank me for it with anchortext of 'affiliate marketing techniques'? Note: This is just an example... I'm not trying to target this keyphrase on any site. |

yes you are right will count for all the words there. I would also use "affiliate marketing" as anchor alone if I want to target that keyword. Cheers | |

The competition on each combination of the keyword will vary, so while google will count it for each keyword, your rankings will vary. I have got best results by mixing the anchor text up so links have lots of different combinations of anchor text. |

all of the above . So 'stock trading systems' would get weight for 'stock trading systems', 'stock systems' 'trading systems', 'stock trading'. Also a bunch of semantically linked stuff too.

yes, another good tactic is to give a liberal sprinkling of synonyms in you acnhor text. Theory being it appears more natural to google as people would naturally use various different words if naturally linking. Google doesnt like artificial linking, they want natural linking, so my method is to make linking look as natural as possible. |

if you want to specifically rank for "affiliate marketing" then make sure whatever other words you use around those two that those two are always in the same order ... but do vary the anchor text for sure ... add words in front, after etc, to make it look more natural ![]() and of course, good on page seo with your chosen phrase will increase results even further |

If your backlink is "affiliate marketing techniques" then it helps to rank for the exact phrase but also, with less power, for "affiliate marketing" or "affiliate" or "marketing techniques" Gunter |

Variety is king, never use the same anchor text for all your links since Google easily spots this as unnatural. As Gunter said, longer anchor texts have less weight for the individual word. Mix it, keep it as different as possible: "affiliate marketing", "online marketing for newbies", "marketing techniques", "affiliate guide", "techniques for affiliate marketing", "maketing for affiliates", "marketing secrets", "yourdomainname.com", "recommended techniques for marketing as an affiliate", etc. Be creative and never use a certain term for more than 50% of your links, that's a good rule of thumb. Always remember, people linking to you would never use the same text. If someone links to Amazon from his private homepage, he'd use "Amazon" in most cases, but some people may use "My favourite online shop" or "Amazon.com" or maybe "Buy here", all kinds of related terms that don't necessarily contain keywords only. |

I think the answer to your question is YES. but it will depend. I used a title learn morgage rates predictions and send a press release and on first page mortgage rates predictions is on first page learn mortgage rates predictions was on page 3 and on rates predictions it was on page 4 and mortgage rates didn't fare well as it was on page 19. you can make your conclusions based on what happen to my press release if you want. Thanks oling |

Use all three and deeplink. If you use the same anchor text itll get flagged as that's not the natural way anyone would link to you. Also try and find places where the link back is in the middle of some text. -James |
