Lightbulb How many backlinks should I create in each article/blog/web2.0 property?

Hello guys!

This is my first post in the forum, although I've been reading it a lot lately. So much great information that sometimes is easy to get hooked, reading for hours, instead of doing actual work!

I've been looking for an answer to this questions but couldn't find anything in the search results, so maybe someone can help. The questions is: How many backlinks should I create in each article/blog/web2.0 property?

I've been creating articles, blogs and web 2.0 properties in high PR domains with direct backlinks to my webpage. In each of those, I include two backlinks: one to the main domain and one to a subpage. That has been giving me very good results so far. However, I was wondering if there is a rule or "backlinks per words" ratio and I could be creating more backlinks than I'm actually doing.

Also, I'm trying to rank some subpages for local keywords. I have a subpage for each state and I want to rank each of them for "Foo Bar <state>", i.e., "Foo Bar ALASKA", "Foo Bar CHICAGO", "Foo Bar BOSTON"... What's the best way of doing that? Can I just create a blog with a link for each state or would Google penalize me for that?

There's no hard set rule, but you'll spread out the link juice with every link you add to the page.

My main concern would be worrying about some web 2.0 sites that have triggers for spam protection, which will flag you if the page has too many links. Your page could be reviewed/deleted. 1-3 links per page sounds decent. Just make it look natural.

Perhaps an attic I shall seek.

Ya I was going to say the answer is a bit unclear for this question. We assume 3 is the limit before there is a severe decrease in juice. I think keeping it at 2 and linking to the same domain but diversifying your pages is the best way to go.

I don't think that there is any point in linking more than twice. Link to a couple of different pages on your site with different anchor text. Then get on with doing something else!
