Ever since October my website which is now about 7 months old has been bouncing in and out of the Google search engine rankings (although I have never been deindexed and when I filed a reconsideration request, I was told that no manual action has been taken against my site). The first time, all my rankings disappeared for almost a month. Then they came back for about a week, then they disappeared again for about a week. This has happened several more times, but now I have been out of the rankings for about two weeks. This whole situation has been extremely frustrating, especially considering the fact that when I am in the rankings they are starting to become pretty decent - I'm getting some of my best keywords onto page one. I am completely mystified as to why this has happened, because I haven't used any black hat tactics - I have focussed on building a site with top-quality content (which Google has said we need to do) and have adopted standard link-building strategies (eg. forum posting, blog commenting, and article submissions). Has this sort of situation happened to anyone else? And do any of you guys have any advice as to what I could do about it? Thanks for your help. |

My site is the one in my signature link. I have taken care with my onpage SEO (although I am open to any suggestions). My link building has all been done manually. Unfortunately a lot of my links aren't the most relevant, because there aren't that many good dating and relationship sites that you can actually post links on. There aren't many other sites like mine - most are just small product review sites that have the primary keyword in the domain name.

It could be a variety of things. Where are you placing the links? Are they on places which push your link off the page as new links come in? (Like BMR for example). If so, you will need to diversify and create additional links using different methods which stick. Also, someone mentioned onpage SEO. While this is important I hardly think it is the cause for such drastic jumping around in the SERPs, unless you are consistently changing your content or layout? I would say you just need to expand your link building to many different sources and diversify your efforts. This will lay some strong anchors on sites which are benefiting your rankings, thus you should hold a steady rank and continually grow upward. Cheers, Dave |

In all likelihood you're bouncing because of your link building (assuming that you are consistent), but having proper onpage is huge and is only going to speed up your results and serve you well in the long run. | |

You don't have to worry about it. It's probably just a google dance. By the way, the google datacenters aren't synced, thus it can cause different ranking positions too. On one datacenter your site can be at position 5, on another datacenter it can be at position 2. |

We have the same experience. I think it is the Google algorithm. Just continue building links to your site.

Usually when this happens its due to crawlers penalizing your site from onpage factors. Link building penalties usually work a bit different. Whats happening is Google changes its algorithm constantly just a little bit and your site is sometimes being penalized and sometimes not. Ive had this happen a few times and have been pretty successful with fixing it. If you PM me your site I can give you suggestions as to why your site might be being penalized.
