use of dash as keyword?

Does air-conditioning count as the same keyword phrase as without the dash?

Further, does Google's use of LSI mean that in a page where air-conditioning is the focus keyword for a page does that mean ac, a/c, air conditioning variants also count as part of the focus keyword count?

Yes, you can use the dash and it will still count as air conditioning. On your blog page it is wise to use variations of your keyword and yes ac, a/c is a variant of your keyword. but try not to over do it and make sure it is still easy to read!
