Default Google Dance? No, This Can't Be!

Okay I've been looking all over for an answer..

My site stays indexed but disappears from all keyword rankings and reappears for a day or two and then disappears again. I had websites fluctuate before but not completely disappear..this can't be the Google dance.

So has anyone had a website do this and recover from it?? I'm working hard on my site and don't want it to be a waste of time....should I keep working or get a new domain?

Please let me know if your site recovered...

Thanks!

How old is the site? If its a month or so old this may happen. If its over a month it means your site is right on the borderline of being penalized and 1 crawler is penalizing it and 1 crawler is bringing it back.

How far is it falling? Sounds like the normal shuffle to me. I did have an old site that lost it's place for like 6 months, and it's back in the top 10 today. I haven't done anything to it in those 6 months. But it went from 4th to somewhere past 1000 (I stopped looking) 6 months ago. Then I just happened to check today it's at 10.

Guess I'll build a few links now.

Remember...

Google isn't perfect either.

Statistically, your computer will fail every 3 years

Because they run thousands of servers, statistically every day 1 server fails for them.

They use a method called data replication. This means that back-linking info is stored on more than one computer, in case one fails.

However, it may be just the computer where your back linking data is. Sometimes, when this happens, your site placement may jump. They constantly re-calculate all backlinks over and over again -- it's a continuous process. And because sometimes a server is not available, that means it wont calculate those backlinks. So, your backlinks will not count.

They do restore their servers eventually.

The thing you should focus more on is creative great content people love -- with a specific purpose in mind. Let people redistribute it on Twitter, Facebook, and their blogs... then you increase the chances of your backlinking and SE placement to be more stable... as they scatter across multiple servers.

Good Luck.

Hey thanks for the reply. The site is about 11 months old now. When I first started it, I was getting auto posts from SEO link vine which sucked in quality. This happened for the first 6-7 months. I deleted all those pages and built it up from scratch and it's a quality site now. When I started SEO a few months back, it was ranking well and then all those pages I deleted came back missing 404. I redirected all those pages just a few days ago and google has taken all but 32 errors away. I'm adding 3 quality posts everyday to it now...

I'm seeing if I should continue or not..

It completely disappears, doesn't rank at all. Only if I search it by URL is when I find it. It falls off then comes back. Well, maybe it's just a waiting game like it was for your site..I'm just afraid to commit so much time on it and it never works out

Well for starters you shouldn't be doing all of those 404 redirects. Google is not crazy about that since it looks like you're trying to manipulate rankings using 301's. 404's are perfectly natural and google prefers them.

Ive been pretty successful fixing penalties like this. Its usually on onpage quality penalty when the symptoms are what you are seeing. If you want to PM me your site I'll take a look and see if I can see what might be the problem.

keep steeady building links to your site, your rankings will balance out and remain high - also if you are getting very high rankings and then none - it could be because you arel ogging into google when you check and sometimes you are not - try using an external rank checker to see whrere you actualy rank - theres a great app on iPhone called SEO Rankings which really helps us!

I'm currently experiencing the same problem with one of my websites and I can assure you it's not a penalty of any kind, but rather Google dance. I will be ranked #3 for a week or so then dissapear to around 500+, sometimes not in the top 1000.

It will stop after a month or two, don't worry and build backlinks.

If it is a site of just three months, it's nothing at all. Please make more backlinks for your site.

Hi Friends

The name "Google Dance" is often used to describe the update of the index search engine Google. Update the Google index occurs on average once a month. It can be identified by a significant movement in search results and especially by the Google cache of all indexed pages reflecting the status of Google spidering past.

Thanks and Regards

If you are blog is new then continue the work normally everything should be fine after a couple of weeks. If you have done any over optimization then resolve it now and do not forget to build links slowly and consistently.

Questions like this one are appearing in IM forums n blogs again and again. How can I increase PR of my site? How can I stop incredible google dance? How can I recover my site from Panda slap? Are nofollow links helping in ranking? Is duplicate content any problem... blah bla bla....

I see lots of misconceptions are floating regarding these issues. Helpers who are answering to the OPs most of them are not aware of what they are talking! What is the real answer of the problem and unfortunately sometimes misleading newbies(most of the times unintentionally). Even though all of these questions were well covered by fellow marketers many times but may be either newbies are too lazy to search and read threads or they don't know the questions are answered many many times thus problems were solved long ago.

By the way your site is dancing because your backlinks are not strong enough. If you build some quality backlinks to moneypage you would see things are coming into control. So either try to build some high PR backlinks or juice up tier1 backlinks. You had better do both. Blast some high PR, dofollow blogs or articles etc. to tier1 backlinks. You would not ask this question again.

FN: Dance is good. It means our wild stallion is healthy.
