Is it normal for search engine ranking position in google to increase and then decrease by about 9 positions when building links?

It is not unusual at all, especially for newer sites. Or if you have a site that hasn;t had links built to it for a long time. I got a couple of sited now that keep jumping back and fore about 10 spots. It is usually a good sign that the site will even out with the better rank when things settle down. The google dance is real - enjoy it :-)

Hi, Then how do you stabilize a site that is flip flopping in rankings on the search engines? I believe there is something that should be done but as a newbie i am not sure what it is...- ![]() Previe |

It's part of the "google dance", don't put much worry about it. Over time the site should begin to stabilize a little more. If google changes an algorithm however, be prepared to experience it once again as it is likely going to happen. -FokusNow |

I think it is Google dance, wise way is to keep on getting more quality backlinks to your site till you get stable position.

Google dance is happening all the time, affecting the newly established web projects the most normally and gradually, as your site gets older and more links are added to it, you will experience solid status online, the fluctuations will be set to minimum and you will then be able to have a clear idea about your final web position online. Such ups and downs in ranks are quite natural to happen and can be a sign of improvement in most cases as the sites are experiencing updates. One thing which will help minimizing the wild fluctuations in ranks is getting some quality links which remain online because older links will help establishing solid positions for domains attached to them. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why some very old websites which have been online for several years are so difficult to outperform because their loads of incoming links too have been constantly accessed and found by Google and other search engines, giving weights to them. |

Its normal to see dances especially when link building. A lot of times you see a spike once you start building links but it's not until your links are cached and evaluated for quality that you'll start to stabilize. Just keep at it and as long as your seeing overall progress don't worry about the occasional ups and downs.

I have a 6 month old website that is ranking #1 for the main keyword. 2 days ago I did some blog commenting (approx. 10 comments) and half an hour later website has completely disappeared from the SERPS. site:domain.com shows that pages are still there. Blog comments were done manually and from the blog posts that are in the same niche. Is it "google dance" or obviously something else?
