Authority Site Design

I'm putting the finishing touches on my keyword research for an authority site I'm getting ready to start on. It's going to be a very large site (probably 1500ish pages by the time it's done).

I've identified 1 main keyword, 4 category keywords, and hundreds of supporting keywords for each of those category keywords.

I will be siloing the structure of the site. I'm going to make it a static site, and not use wordpress.

However, I also want to add a traditional blog to the site. The blog will be linked to from the home page only (maybe category pages, but I think just the home page).

Anyway - I'm planning to link back to relevant pages on the main site from blog (not vice versa). I just want to make sure there's no SEO issues I'm missing by doing this.

The blog itself isn't going to siloed necessarily. It will have categories, etc. but it's main purpose will be to provide up to date valuable info for the sites users.

Anyway, just want to try to not mess this up since it's going to be such a big site.

The idea is solid, and a smart long term strategy. Just make sure to properly do the seo and things will look good.

Good to hear your building an authority site.

You do realize 1,500 hand built pages & all internal links hand built is a lot of work, right? Also, organizing all those links manually will be very time consuming.

Not trying to steer you away from the html silo, just saying a lot of work is involved for a site that large.

The one-way links pointing at the silo pages should defiantly help, sounds like a good plan.

Why do you want to build this site statically? You might run into problems managing changes once the site gets really big. I'm not saying it can't be done but using a CMS (there are others beside Wordpress) seems a sensible approach for a project that big.

I like your plan. I've been wanting to do exactly what you plan to do but have been bogged down by some domestic offline matters at the moment.

Anyway, care to share your specific reasons why you chose not to run your proposed website on the Wordpress platform?

Do you understand enough about Silo structure? at most 10 pages in each silo

so you are going to have 150 silos?

Why do you say at most 10 pages in a silo? if a 10 page silo is good, a 300 page silo is better.

I'd have to have a theme custom built to make wordpress work like an actual silo site. Certainly a possibility. I'd rather use wordpress.

Needless to say the thought of doing 1500 pages by hand isn't exactly appealing, but I'm entering an extremely tough market so I want every advantage I can get.
