Can anyone show me evidence that 100 social bookmarking links has more power than 1 contextual link on a PR2 or higher page?

Can anyone show me their traffic avalanche from social bookmarking? (Actually I do know an example myself, but it is in a very mainstream industry with tens of millions of people following the topic, not a normal IM niche.)

My point is simply this...Social Bookmarking should be part of your linking efforts but with these understandings:

1. The links are weak.
2. It WILL help your content get indexed faster.
3. It will not dramatically increase your ranking.
4. Do not expect a rush of traffic.
5. Do not expect sustained traffic.

I don't get what a lot of you guys are talking about. Social bookmarking used to be the main back link method I used to rank articles for low competition searches. Now I just make a few from Digg, Linked In, Delicious, Stumble Upon, Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus, and the social sites where I have followers, it sometimes gets me over a hundred views, even two hundred. To manually do more than that, like a hundred on sites with no followers would be a waste of time, you could get better results through many other methods. It is less effective than it used to be, unless Google has changed it's algorithms yet again, which they probably have.

Would it be fair to say then that the best strategy is to join a handful and build up your network within those?

Delicious is probably my favourite due to ease of use and can easily bookmark through toolbar (can't with Stumbleupon through safari for example).
