What is the perfect keyword density for perfect on-page optimization?

There really is no perfect keyword density. I usually have my writers shoot for around 3-4%, but if it's a little over or a little under, I really don't care. Of course on-page SEO is important, but what's more important in ranking is the backlinks.

What if I have 7-8%?
My sites have mostly PR0 backlinks. But are on 1st page and rank is above 6. I think its because of on-page only. I haven't got any satisfactory backlinks yet.

7-8%? I still wouldn't worry about it. If you're moving up the ranks of the first page, I doubt the search engines are placing any penalty on your site. If you've been stuck at 6th for a while, now you probably just need some high PR links to give your site that extra boost.

Disagreed. Onpage is just as important if not more important than links. With proper onpage you make it that much easier for yourself to rank. You'll never maximize the potential of your website without proper onpage SEO.

Anyways, as for the keyword density question, there's no perfect number. Write content for your users and use the keyword or variations wherever they fit. If you are set on having a % to aim for, look at what your competitors are doing. Figure out the average keyword density of the top 3-5 results and use that number as a guideline.
