Default How to host on separate c class? Reseller enough?

I'm at the stage where I really need to consider protecting my money makers.

Right now, I have a reseller account with host gator. How do I host with different c class?

Can I just purchase more ips from hostgator and request that they are not same shared hosting or do I need to host on totally different host?

Please provide some info so I can see the bigger picture. I am a newb when it comes to hosting and servers or what not.

You do not need to "protect" your money sites by hosting them on unique c-class IPs, unless you're linking irrelevant sites together to manipulate the SERPs or creating "duplicate" sites. If you're using Adsense, Analytics, webmaster tools, affiliate programs, etc. Google will be able to tell anyway regardless of the IPs. And unless they've changed Hostgator only provides d-class IPs anyway.

The idea of the different IPs is to put up a "blank" site (non-monetized, even use different emails in Wordpress Settings/Users)) and link to your money sites from the different IPs. But you're going to need a bunch of high PR sites to make it work, thus many people join blog networks instead to create their backlinks. JMO

Ok. Thats good to know.

I've heard that the reason why you should is if you are tagged as spam on one site that your whole portfolio can be affected. Basically, if you over backlink one site and google gives a penalty, it may bleed over to the rest of the sites.

Lets pretend that I dont want people finding all my sites by discovering 1 of them and using tools/service to discover the rest. Is separate ips enough to protect from spyers?

If you're penalized it'll be by domain and not IP number, if not everyone on your IP would be penalized as well, if you're banned by Adsense the IPs won't matter (don't ask how I know ). As for seeing all of your sites from your IP they may be able to see it from different d class IPs I'm not sure. Webhosts buy in blocks and a different c-class is a different block so I'm not real sure, but hostgator is very responsive why don't you try shooting them an email.

Just remembered, yeah they can. using Firefox and the SearchStatus (Quark) addon you can see all the domains hosted on the IP.
