Default Beating Amazon, Walmart, Wikipedia?

So I was digging through some keywords doing some research when I came across a cool niche.

I haven't had the chance to look at the search numbers, but the product is in the $80-150 range on Amazon and I did a cursory search on Google and found the whole front page to be department store sites (walmart, target) and Amazon corporate also...

Right now there are no SEO optimized niche blogs for affiliate sales on Amazon or Adsense sites on the front page or second page for that matter.

My question is - is it difficult to outrank Walmart, Amazon,Wikipedia, etc? I've heard that it doesn't take much to knock them off, but is this true?

(I have experience in ranking in the SERPs, so I'm not a true beginner)

Usually when I see a first page with nothing but shopping links I know it'll be easy to rank with good content and backlinks. It's basically telling you that Google has nothing else to display so they're showing store links.

If you dig around for other terms you'll usually see reviews mixed in with the shopping links. Even outranking them a lot of the time.

Just make sure the shopping links don't have a ton of backlinks themselves and you'll probably be fine. I say "probably," because nothing is ever 100%.

It's not difficult as long as you answer the user's question. That's what SEO always comes down to.

Don't just let them buy the product, or bounce them to a page where they buy it - review it. Compare it to others so they stay on your site for a bit, make up their mind, and then buy it - you'll survive a lot longer that way.

With quality content, proper on-page SEO, and decent off-page SEO, I have found that beating those sites is fairly simple.

Ok cool. Thanks for the tips guys. I'm still waiting to get my GKW tool to work ... Really bad bandwidth in Afghanistan!

I agree with you Mate. When Google doesn't see any websites that deserve to rank on #1 for the search terms, they choose authority sites. In fact, Amazon, Walmart and Wikipedia aren't hard to beat off. Just think what Google want and give it to them so they'll reward you a good ranking.
