Confused On How To Use Social Bookmarking To Get Back Links & Traffic

ok...will try to explain what I am confused with:

I can't seem to wrap around my head around the concept of social bookmarking. It appears to be abused from what I have read, and do not wish to do so.

I am just building my backlinks and in a very competitive niche. I have created many valuable list type articles and a ebook but do not know what to do with them yet as far as social bookmarking goes.

Not sure if I should submit all of my articles to all 135 social bookmarking sites or just what I consider the best articles but if I worked hard at making all of my articles valuable then what

1) Am i submitting my site url or the home page as one of my bookmarks or this does not count

2) how should i use social bookmark sites to gain me traffic or backlinks correctly with spamming or getting others upset

3) Am I not spamming if I submit my own articles does it not like self promotion since I am bookmarking my own articles and I can members of the community angry at me

4) How do I benefit from backlinks are the dofollow or nofollow

5) is it not better to focus on just 1 or 2 of them where you can build a momentum i hear it is like a community too but not sure

6) I have about 20 articles that are original and provide great value and a ebook if you were in my shoes what would you do to get started using social bookmark sites to help gain traffic and links

Just get as many bookmarks as possible. It's still a link, and a link is a link.

Don't worry about that type of "blowback". It's a non-issue.

every link counts it does not matter if it is dofollow or nofollow, a link on yahoo home page always give you traffic even if it is nofollow

If you visit the onlywire home pages there is an impressive corporate client list. Surely they are not advertizing that they are spamming, otherwise Google will Penney-lize them.

Please do NOT believe everything you read here, some of what's said about backlinking on this forum can get your site de-indexed, rather than help you!

Social bookmarking then is really for others who wish to bookmark things they like online for their own use later on or to share with others to see as well I think ;>)

Hey chris read over your free ebook which gave some clarity on some things, I am familiar with the panda update of google and yes it is highly unnatural to build quick links to quickly and of only one kind ....this is confirmed from my research to back up your claims about not building too many quick social bookmarks too quickly or suffer the consequences...

Now what I did not know was that one can bookmark anything that is of interest is this true or almost anything ?

So can I bookmark the following:

* videos
* pdfs in ebook directories
* articles in directories
* pages on hubpages or squidoo
* graphics
* infographics
* mp3
* podcasts
* what else or correct me if wrong on the above
* articles from my own website

Social bookmarking is not just a way to build links but can also be used to generate some decent referral traffic especially when your site/blog/content is still fairly new.

Here are some things I wish to share in the discussion that I have discovered since your responses ..

* Social bookmarking is a community
* It cannot be just your own bookmarks that you should be bookmarking to really benefit but must bookmark other interesting content for the community

There seem to be more then meets the eye here, it is not just bookmarking your own articles , videos, podcasts etccc it is a community hummm

I need to find out more ...about social bookmarking the right and wrong of doing this...chris hit on something now I am digging further.

It all depends if you wish to stay within the white hat - grey hat area but if you are practicing black hat then go for as many backlinks from social bookmarks and worry about being penalized later,,

If your share other links, people start thinking 'oh what an interesting guy. I'll follow his links." Then you can throw in your own. This is extra work, so most people won't bother to do it. But the idea is to build real credibility as a resource.

If you are looking for traffic Digg,reddit and stumble upon is the way to go.Most of the other sites are just for backlinks.You can use bookmarking links to gain ranking and even index links.

Then share your link page and homepage and ask your network member to share it with other members. Try to cover as many social bookmarking websites as you can because in seo every link counts.

What you have shared is what I have recently discovered.

It appears that if your objective is just to get backlinks then just submitting ones new articles to social bookmark sites will get you backlinks

Can one still get ........traffic from social bookmark sites when submitting your articles by not participating in the community ?

I am not sure since I do not have any experience with it but one may have to work the community to maximize getting traffic from these social bookmark communities ?

ATTENTION FOR OTHERS HERE:

The most important discovery I have found is that SOCIAL BOOKMARK SITES ARE COMMUNITIES ;>) meaning to maximize the use of them one has to to be a participant of the community.
