Can anyone explain to me how to find and properly use secondary keywords

I understand the importance of relevence when it comes to seo but I am so lost as how to pick my secondary keywords and how to use them properly on my site.

Should they be pages or posts or what?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You may choose long-tail keywords or other keywords relevant to your main keyword. For example:

Main Keyword: Weight Loss
Secondary Keywords:
-Female Weight Loss
-Weight Loss Fast
-Weight Loss Diets

I use my secondary keywords in posts. I create contents about my secondary keywords but I use my main keyword content as my homepage content. Hope this help.
