Default Wow… Bing!

I never realized how much traffic I was getting from Bing on my sites. I recently switched over all my sites from Google analytics to statcounter. I like statcounter a lot better so I have been actually using it quite a lot lately. I never bothered much with looking at analytics. I found it annoying to navigate quickly through multiple sites and I figured you either have traffic or you don't so why bother.

I noticed that Bing/Yahoo (same thing these days) is sending me close to 1/3 of my overall traffic for most pages. Even some pages I thought were going to be dead in the water due to Google penalties are bringing in some money making traffic through Bing/Yahoo. This is much more then I remember it being about a year ago. Its a bit exciting to feel that maybe theres hope for some true Google competition. That way a websites entire fate isn't solely controlled by 1 companies whim.

You are totally right, people underestimate Bing and Yahoo but there is a lot of traffic there also.

I noticed the same thing on a new site a while back. I could not figure out where the sales where coming from since it was not really ranking in the big G at the time. Then I did a search for my keyword on Bing and there it was in the top 3.

Bing/yahoo accounts for I think 30+% of overall search traffic over the internet

Hopefully it will go up to half and knock google off its perch

From your lips to God's ears! I also just use stat counter alone and prefer it. For a couple sites that don't rank at all in google, I'm #1 on Yahoo.

Google needs some worthy competition. They're too big and dangerous and fickle.

Yep....
I found that as soon as I get a new domain up and running , go to Bings webmaster page and ad my site and the bing meta on my site, I start getting almost instant traffic.

I use to do the same with Yahoo, but now it is included with bing.

secrets out

LOL, before I started learning about internet marketing, I had never used Google. I always used Yahoo to search for everything. I'm amazed that Google is so much bigger than Yahoo.

Jonathan Leger has an interesting post about what it takes to rank in Bing. Bing seems to be actually leading in this, and it seems this is the direction where Google is going.

The most valuable links are those you THEORETICALLY have the least control over (editorial/content links). I'm surprised Google gives any weight to profile links at all.

For people who are getting a lot of traffic from Bing, could you tell us what your general niche/category is? You don't have to be specific.

Bing is a strange beast. I've got pages that really have no business ranking well on the first few pages for a number of different keywords.

They almost seem "backwards" compared to what it takes to rank in Google.

Bing have a 30% search market share, so you should be expecting to see about 1/3 of your traffic coming from them!

Just one thing I learn from Bing, The traffic from Bing can get much higher CTR on Adsense than traffic from Google.

I also heard that Bing and Yahoo traffic converts better than Google on some occasions. Don't underestimate Bing and Yahoo!
